One thing I never see listed on the carbs is what model they are. I have the stock VM 26s on my 1979 GS 1000, I have a set of VM 28s needing a good cleaning and rebuild, and a set of VM 29s. You can always tell the 29s because they have no overflow, but the others aren't marked anywhere I can find it. I have a Honda XL185S which has what I believe is a VM/TM series carb, but no markings. It's the type that the top unscrews and the slide and needle can be pulled out staying on the throttle cable. I rebuilt the bike's engine, and fooled with a cursory cleaning to tune the carb. I left the project hanging when I decided that I would be spending my time better to get the GS 750 back on the road. Now that gas is back up to $3 a gallon, and I'm really getting sick of a public transportation commute that takes about 1 1/4 hours to get in, and about 1 3/4 hours to get home (on an about 6 mile distance) I'm ready to dip the the carb after completely disassembling. I have been told by a shop I used for inspections and parts that there is no rebuild kit for the carb, and the type isn't even listed in the Haynes (I know, I know) shop manual, I can't check for myself online. I figure I can get o-rings from cycleorings.com once I identify the carb, and that should be enough to get the bike on the road. BTW, this bike has 900-some ORIGINAL miles on it; a friend of mine took it away from his 14-year-old for riding it on the street.
