A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

This topic has already been covered, but I'd like a few opinions. I know size of tires recommended for my 750 Front 3.25/90/19 and Rear 4.00/90/18. But... I would like to put a wider rear tire on. How wide can I go on the rim of a 1978 GS750? Or better yet, how wide have some of you used on your bike?

Thanks,

Scudder

Search function Scudder. This topic has been covered again and again.

Bottom line, a 120 is the max recommended tire for your rim which is 2.15" wide.

Covered too many times, but if you put anything wider than the reccomended tire widths on motorcycle rims you will get a distortion of the tires contour and the handling will suffer. I know this from experience.

Ok. I searched it. Should've done that first. Thanks anyway.

Why would you want a wider tire? I have no trouble with grip on the road with stock size tires. Plus they are cheap.

Switch to a 78 1000 wheel, I believe it's only a bearing swap & then you can use a 130 tyre. Check clearance for swingarm, brake torque arm etc.

No probs running a 130 (120 stock) here on the '81. Just a mosquito's ass hair off the brake stay.
