DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I was wondering if an 850G Motor & tran fit a 650G frame & drive shaft without any modifications

The 850 is a full-sized engine. The 650 is a mid-sized engine. I have read that you can actually fit a 1000cc engine in the 850 frame, but I can't see any way you can get a larger engine in the 650 frame.
Also, since the 850 is the second heaviest Gs (only the GK is heavier) I can't see any reason why it would be desirable.
The 550 and 650 are both unique models, and very little is compatible with either larger or smaller GS models.

I would hope so, k_k.

The '80 and '81 850G and 1000G have exactly the same part number for the frame.
Also, the '82 and '83 850G and 1100G have the same part number for the frame, but it's different than the earlier years.

So "Angel" could possibly become a "Saintly" 1100 and offer your Wing a challenge, eh? ;););)

The 650 has practically the same hp as the 850 anyway, so why would you change to a heavier motor. 73hp compared to 77hp.

If you see an 850G and a 650G side-by-side, the answer is obvious. There's quite a size difference.

But how often does that opportunity come up? :D

All the 850, 1000, and 1100 shaftie engines interchange; the mounts are in identical places. You'll usually also need the carbs, airbox, usually the driveshaft, and possibly the ignition from the donor bike. I'm also thinking that G and GL airboxes may be different, so there may be issues to sort out there.

I am not as well versed in the 1000 and 1100 differences, but the '80 850GL was rather unique. It appeared to share the airbox with the 850G (no, I have not bothered to check the cross-reference charts on this), but the '81 850GL has the slanted covers that came on the '82 and '83 G and GL models. The '81 850G still has the same square-ish ends that the '79 and '80 models had.
