A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Wrong handlebars? 1979 GS750

Hi, I am trying to get my recently acquired GS750 to original condition. I have fixed a few zingers from the guys I bought it from, here is perhaps a new one. I just got what I believe is the original master cylinder. The previous master cylinder obscured the rpm gauge. Anyway, it looks like the original master is still too close to the gauge. So, are the handlebars too narrow? Is the switch block installed incorrectly? I think maybe the handlebars are incorrect. If so, just add this to the list. Thanks in advance, and hopefully this image post works. It is from flickr, am pasting the address that flickr produces when I "share" the image.

That MC, I’m 99% certain is not OEM.

edit: Hmm. After looking at the parts fiche, it just might be. Maybe it is the bars that are wrong/short.

As for posting pics from your Flickr account, you need the BBCode which you can’t get from the App.

watch this (iPad/Safari):

or this (Samsung/Android Chrome).

They don't look original to me, but there are lots of owners of the real McCoy that will let you know. If they are not, the originals are easy to find. Good luck with your rebuild.

The M/C is correct. The seating position on the '77-'79 with original bars is fairly upright, with arms slightly bent (for the average rider) - look for 5" rise, 5-6" pull back and a width of 29".
How about posting some more photos, your bike looks like it's in pretty good nick - we'd like to see it.

Thanks, guys. I'm working a LAD tomorrow and taking off Tuesday. So, I'll post more pics then. In the meantime I'll look for the 5 inch rise, 5-6 inch pull-back, and 29 inch width bars. Just did a quick measurement on the current bars and get 27.5 inch width, 3 inch rise, and no (or virtually no) pull-back

Thanks, just put up a post in the wanteds, will see where that goes. It does not look like they are that expensive anyway, but why not recycle when we can? Also, was looking at the Flanders Daytona or the GS E bars, but those are much more expensive. They must be really nice....
