I took the XR 41 replica out for a ride today as I wanted to compare it to my other project bike i.e. the "Mocca Racer"
As some of you might remember the XR 41 replica is basically a GS 1000 engine in a GSXR 1st gen chassis.
I really love this bike, the riding position suits me fine with the clip-ons above the top yoke.
On the go, the bike feels really small almost like a 600 cc but very stable with it's conservative geometry added to the 18" wheels.
The engine, a 1085 with Wiseco pistons, individual APE filters, a Dynojet stage 3 kit and a Devil/Cobra exhaust goes really well with a big surge of power above 6000 rpm.
The suspension is on the firm side but not harsh.
In comparaison the Mocca Racer that's a GS 1000 fitted with a GSXR 1052 engine is a totally different bike.
Just as much fun but in a different way.
The engine revs like there is no tomorrow with a deep howl coming out of the racing Devil exhaust.
The bike feels more modern with it's 17" wheels and superior suspension thanks to it's R6 front end and it's GSXR 2nd gen monoshock with an Ohlins unit.
The geometry is more agressive as I lifted the rear of the bike to reduce the caster and thus the trail.
This makes the bike more agile in the tight corners.
I haven't weighed the two bikes but they must be much much lighter that a std GS 1000 or worse an 1100 Kat.
The bottom line is that it's been great fun to build these bikes and the result is beyond my expectations.
As a daily driver I would pick the Mocca Racer but if I wanted to go racing I'd go for the XR 41 replica.
To be expected I suppose?
