A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

i really liked how it turned out.i have to do another wet sand and one more coat of clear next spring on the tank.i thought why not i have a little bit left in the can.bad call...... it spit out rather than sprayed the last bit

Neil: How much was the Spraymax clear? Where'd you get it? That's the two-part stuff where you break open the second part with a thingy on the bottom, right?

I did the same thing on mine...cept it didnt spit, but the little bit of clear in the can actually clouded...p!ssed me off cos i had to sand it all off.. live and learn..lol
man where do you keep finding those things??? 550 is a little on the small side for me at this point...had a 76550SS loved it...but that was years and years ago..from there it was a CB750SS and i couldnt go back...750 is where its at for me, maybe someday id like to move up to a nice 78GS1000, that would make an insane cafe...but if i found a nice one id leave it alone.

I rattled mine, and think it turned out nice.....but of course I would think that....cuz I did it! It's all a matter of taste, and durability....mine is holding up fine.....if I get tired of the color, I can change it on the cheap!

i find them quite often actually.a guy at work brings the bike trader in religously every thursday,i check KIIJII and craigs list.i could have 20 more 550's in the garage.i just turned one down for $300.00 last week.it was tempting though as it had duel disk brakes already:-D
my first bike was a Yamaha Seca 750.crashed it on the DVP (front tire went flat as a pancake).it was a great bike and i liked the shaft drive.
thing i like about the cb 500 and 550 is that no engine removal is required on a major overhaul.the cb 750 has about an inch of clearance to remove from the frame and thats being generous.
for extra umph i bought that 82 gs 750\\:D/

Man..Yanno i cant find a decent shape CB750 SOHC round here for less than 2500 bucks...I paid 450 for my 550, and kick myself for ever getting rid of it ( i got twice what i paid but had about 650 in it including the original price) I could prolly get near 3 times that now...ahh well..someday ill stumble on a Z1 for cheap...that will be my lottery..lol

Ya the 750's are not cheap and they are getting harder to find.
i lucked out on my GS.a lot of people know i like to buy and fix up these old bikes so they call me when they know of one for cheap and in good shape.most of my bikes have come from guys who wimp out when there girlfriends or wives tell them it has to go:-D.

thats exactly what happened with that 550..guys wife wanted the "death trap" out of the garage...lol

Same here. Well it belong to some guy down the road from me and I always saw it sitting neglected on the side of his house. Apparently he stopped riding after it spooked him so he sold it to me for $400. Apparently his wife was glad to see it go. When I went to pick it up she was like oh thank god you're taking it

I think Carpy buys them all ...lol..you ever seen pics of his back yard??? Its CB SOHC heaven...

no i havnt seen his backyard in any pics.
hes on the SOHC4 site but he dosnt post much.
i looked at his website though.pretty pricey:(

yeah but he goes buck @ss on them...they're polished to the teeth. Some even have the 836 bore kit on em. I just want to know how he makes his tanks..i know he doesnt build them completely by hand...they have to be addon to stock facades yanno?? Ive emailed him a couple times regarding having him build me one and on some other things and NEVER has he replied...kinda ****es me off cos for a long time he was a bit of an idol to me..

ya i agree with ya that he has built some badass cafes.and i would probably buy one over a decked out Harley.well maybe i shouldnt say that (have you seen the prices drop with the buck lately)
