About 260 miles on the way home today for a total of 768 miles for the week. Managed to dodge a hay bale that fell off a truck landing near my rear tire as I rode past and then almost dropped it (this bike is very forgiving in that respect) trying to stop before a lady backed into me as I pulled into a restaurant. There was a lot of traffic on the road but my new Zumo did a good job finding some off the wall roads for me. In fact, one road in Indiana, County Road 720, started off with a sign that read Dangerous curves ahead. I wasn't in a position to take a picture of that sign due to its location but the road wasn't that technical - just very tree covered with openings for the sun that hid areas very well. I even took the Bandit off-road twice where it handled things okay but I just slowed it way down. I also need to figure out a good app for the Zumo to recognize construction detours since it kept telling me to take a U-turn to get back on US 63 when I had to get off early.

The attached map is of my tracks and ends about 20 miles early since I turned the Zumo off since I was back on well known roads.

Shan and I went out on a teeny adventure on Teeny; our TU250X.

We decided to do a classic Bike and hike and check out The crown point ruins, (more or less a tradition at this point)

Walked around the whole perimeter of the state land... Gorgeous day!

Shan found these flowers she absolutely loved....

      Wicked cool spot!

My First day off in 7 days and it was GREAT!

We covered allot of ground by TUX and By foot. Lots of back and dirt roads....

Hope everyone had a good memorial day!

Oh Yeah... My family is from and rooted in Ticonderoga (and this area of the Champlain Valley) going back to the early 1700's...
My uncle is in charge of the Fife and Drum Corps at fort "Ti" here is him and his band of musicians in the Uniform of the Colonial army... (they also wear British uniforms and minute men uniform/ which really is just garb of the area for Militia didn't have uniforms...)

I should go back and say hey... Used to go to that fort all the time.

I had a job opportunity near Alamosa CO. and went to investigate. The job was a remodel project for a family member that I don't think I'll get too involved with after all. But...what a great excuse to explore Northern NM and Southern CO. Since about 2pm yesterday I've been riding, taking the long way there and back. Such beautiful country. Here's a few pics.

First the route. It wound up being about 650 miles for the two day ride.

So Roger..... how does the 850 run at 11,000 feet? I remember in the mid-80's my brother, dad and I took a trip in his new, carbureted Camaro Z-28 that ran real well in Texas where he lived, but it just barely made it over Independence Pass in CO (12.000 ft.)

Took the ugly down a dirt road to get some leeks. Not an especially good year for leeks, they're kinda small.

It ran flawlessly, getting 49.5 mpg through higher elevation and 40 mpg down lower. No power difference that I could notice.

I found a few leaks myself yesterday. Oil leaks that is. Haha

There was snow up in the Rockies in some spots and I wish I had warm clothes, but only for a minute.

Went downtown here in our little town for early morning coffee.
And looked around with an eye for photo scenes.
Are some interesting building down there.
And was early enough, before most business opened, so not many cars parked around.

When we moved here in late 70's these were all hardware stores, department stores, Floyds barbershop, Emmitts Fix It Shop, Goobers Filling station, Bluebird Diner.
And the town council and festival committees looked like Sheriff Andy Taylor, Ronald Reagan and Walter Cronkite.
Then most of the big industrail employers close down, loosing hundreds and hundreds of jobs. Then many buildings were empty for a while.
Then started having art festivals, and brew pubs opening (and general economy improve).
Now most all the shops are high end tourist stuff (I guess, nothing there for me) and art gallerys.
And those folks now look more like Gerry Garcia, Frank Zappa and Janis Joplin.

And now it is an official "tourist town", now have a fudge shop.

                          .

No pictures but went out for a short 40 mile loop before it started getting warm. Texas summers probably keep me off the bike more than winter time does. Going out in 100+ degree days to pound out the miles isn't my idea of fun so I try to get shorter rides in during the summer time. If I get up early enough I'll try to get out to do a 100 or 150 mile loop somewhere. That usually gets me back to the house right as the temps break into the 90s.

Yah, Some of the Texas guys that I knew, from GSR Texas Hill Country rally March 2005, said they have two main riding seasons: Spring and Fall.
But sounds like you do get in some riding in summer. And I suppose they did too, just cut back on distance, and morning better.

They had a spring rally in March and then a fall rally in October (I think, maybe was November) for a few years prior to 2005 and only a couple years after.
