A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey all, I've been around and have owned bikes for over 60 years. Everything from Briggs mini bikes to Harley Softails. I tend to lean towards Japanese bikes, just because.

Just finished a nut and bolt resto on a 1975 Honda XL350 K1 and a 1978 Kawasaki KZ1000 and sold both to a guy that gave me the "I Don't Want to Sell Them Price" and I was bored and lonely the next day.

I picked up a 1980 Suzuki GS550e last week from the original owner that had 8,004 miles on the clock. Apparently, it was kept in his living room for about 42 years or so. Other than the pod air filters it is bone stock, but not for long. When I asked why he put the cheap pod air filters on it he said that he took the air box off to do a carb clean and couldn't put the stock box back on.

I've already ordered EBC clutch friction plates, Delkevic 4 into 1 exhaust and K&N pod air filters (DID NOT WORK) and an assortment of jets from Jets R Us, none of it was cheap but a 44-year-old survivor deserves every penny. This machine will be kept in my living room when not being on the road. These are the mods that I would have done back in 1980 if I bought the GS550 new.

Welcome, and that nice of a 43 yr. old GS, really deserves the OEM air box and filter... Congrats on a great find, and welcome.

The original owner included the OEM airbox and filter along with the mirrors and headlight. The work I plan on doing can all be returned to stock equipment if needed.

There, that’s better:

welcome!

Member Zed sells "air correction jets" which make jetting the carbs for pods MUCH easier than otherwise will be the case. They are highly recommended for the pod lovers. Personally, though, I'd put the bike to stock.

I thank you for your input Ed. I've got an email in for zed1015 on ebay for the air correction jets.
I was never a stock guy in the 70's and 80's and I'm not a stock guy now. I will keep all the stock components for the next person that owns this GS550e. The guy I bought this from installed Cheap pods that don't fit properly so I ordered the Correct pods from DNA Filters in Greece (Not Cheap) K&N filters "DO NOT FIT" and I will be installing the Delkevic 4 into 1 exhaust. I will give updates as I go.

I never pay attention, didn't notice that light, just assumed the light was not in there and I's just looking at the inside of the bowl. That light does look different
