I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

!978 GS750 FB market place purchased for $500. Came with the carbs (Carbs are JUNK) and stock airbox and filter. Been sitting outside for some time now. Mileage on the speedo is 16,423. Gas tank looks great inside. I believe it's got good bones to work with.

That's a '77, wire wheels and single disk - registered in '78. Looks in really good shape. You're going to have some fun there!

Manufacturers tag on the neck says 8 of 78. Kinda late in the year to be a 77 but then again, I'm no expert.

A PO prolly switched out the wheels... there's little else different from '77-'79.

"78" had both "E" (cast wheels) and "standard" (spoke wheel) models. Paint has me confused, thought "78" paint was either maroon or dark blue for the spoked wheel models. Not sure about the red on Bobby's bike.

Hard to remember that long ago but for sure one spoked wheel color was blue, a neighbor down the road still has the one he bought new, while I was with him, and almost sure he had the option of maroon. Thinking maybe the "E" model was in black... You're straining my memory.

You may be thinking of the '78 GS1000C colors??? They were available in blue and maroon, along with the black GS1000E "skunk".

I checked the garage and the '78 GS750E is still black!:p

The carbs were junk and this is what I found in the clutch basket!! No water in the oil but this bike was last clutched in 1992 and has been sitting outside ever sense.

Keep your head up...and keep pushing forward. The early 2V 750 engine is supremely durable, and once you sort though the teething problems, you will be rewarded...

Yeah Ed, after close inspection of the engine, it doesn't look like it's ever been apart. Oil pan is coming off in the next bit and we'll see what that looks like. The clutch was stuck in the compressed position so the springs had been compressed for about 30 years. Springs were 1mm (.035) out of service spec. (too short) $18 and problem solved.
After I get the engine running I will do a complete tear down and resto on the GS. I love this stuff.

What you're looking at is "I Have To Take the Engine Apart"

No metal but a lot of water and microbes that can live in water. Something didn't look right in #4 so I took the head off to see what didn't look right.
#1 and 4 pistons were down for 30 years and more condensation build up in those 2 cyls, but I should be able to correct it with the proper hone.
This bike has had maybe 4 oil changes in the last 46 years.

I'm So glad no one tried to start this with ether back in the day. Absolutely Pristine under the cover and dry as a bone just an oil film on everything.

Back in '79, I bought a leftover '78, brand new. It was red just like this one, I think the other color was blue..Loved that bike for 2 years, then traded up for an 11E, Loved that bike even more, but I sometimes wish I still had the 750. Ah, well, those were the days, my friend. We thought they;d never end.

(edit)On second thought, my bike was a darker red, and the gas cap cover was unpainted plastic: black. I wonder if Bobby's bike has been repainted?

Cylinder has to come off to hone and check rings. I did do a little clean up before the pic. Wish I knew how to point my pics.

All 4 carbs were junk and these are what I ended up getting from a member here. Looks like someone drained the fuel from the carbs many years ago. All jets saved and other than gaskets and
O-rings, all was perfect inside. The #3 vacuum nipple was missing but I have my donor set of carbs on hand, easy fix.
