    A note to new registrants...

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Things that make you say why?

Yeah, I know there's a reason he's not riding, but that's no excuse for having such a narrow opinion of what should and should not be on a motorcycle.

When I bought my Goldwing Rob asked me about jacking and I let him know I didn't notice it but had on a virago 920 I once had. Then when I got the XS1100 he flat out declared that particular bike was known for jacking but I never noticed it. He hasn't asked about jacking on my current bike which is surprising since it appears that with all his accumulated knowledge he seems to be an expert on jacking. Maybe he knows something I don't on the subject, I just ride the things and don't spend much time pondering the subject of jacking.

Only had a short ride on an XS1100, I did notice the jacking, but only because it was slightly worse than my KZ1300. My subsequent shafties have had noticeably less. The list: ZN1300 (factory-loaded version of the KZ1300), GL1500, GS650G, numerous GS850Gs.

For those who ride at 9/10 level and above, it does require a slightly different technique, but for the rest of us, it's simply a good ride with lower maintenance.

Like most everything else, It's what you get yus'to... First few rides on friends shafties it seemed odd, XS1100 really bad... Bought a GS1000G in 1980, and a week later never noticed the jacking again, I had quickly got yus'to it. Probably if Rob rode one for a few days he may think of shafties different too. No doubt XS1100's, by far, were the worst I ever rode

As mentioned, it wasn't something I seemed to notice on the XS but the only times it got ridden beyond a pedestrian level it was on straightaways and rarely above 75 or so.

If you where powering out of a corner I could see it being an issue but when it comes to cornering it's well known that I have the meatiest chicken strips in The Smokies, Colonel Sanders sends out his personal jet to pick up my used tires, really saves on disposal fees!

To answer thread question: different strokes for different folkes!

For you Steve, I agree with your philosophy and I own a chain driven bike.

Here's a song that came to me as I read your words:
