I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

1980 or 1982 GS1100E--Which Would You Choose?

Well, got the carbs back on the bike and it now runs! The engine sounds really good. I do still have to sync. the carbs. as the idle is a bit rough and uneven.
I do have a question. The oil light, taillight, head light, brake light and side stand warning lights all stay illuminated. If I disconnect the oil pressure sender, they all go out.
What's going on here? I'm not familiar with this set-up.

Thanks guys.

Thinking they are designed that way. Back yrs. ago a guy came in the local shop on his GS1100E, said he had an electrical problem, had to be electrical as all his warning lights were on. Mechanic found little or low oil, & when the oil light lit all the lights would light. Riders will be much more apt to notice the entire cluster lit than just the oil light... no guarantee, just a memory from a loooong time ago.

I wondered if that might be the case. The engine is full of new oil, and new filter. I watch the site glass when started and the oil disappears, so I'm making the assumption the oil pump is circulating the oil. The engine is mechanically quiet, no abnormal clattery noises or anything like that.
Bad or stuck oil pressure sending unit?
I guess I could remove it and have a little look-see.

There was nothing wrong with the sender. So, decided to remove the oil filter plate...it was dry inside! Pulled the filter, everything looked fine. Left the plate off and turned it over to check for flow, and a plug shot out of the feed passage. Man, I hope I didn't hurt this thing running it for a minute or so like this. I doubt I did. These are pretty robust engines.
Put it back together, pulled a pipe plug out of the top of the plate and spun the engine with the starter and kill switch off until oil came out. Reinstalled the plug and fired it up. The lights went out immediately and the engine still sounds mechanically great.
Continued on with syncing the carbs. Got them dialed, and now has a smooth idle. This thing sounds really good.

When I got this bike, there was no oil filter plate and there were remnants of hoses from a cooler hacked off on the block. I plugged the cooler galleys and installed a filter plate. I didn't think to check for blockages in the feed galley.

My opinion, all good, roller bearing crankshaft will see no problems & the guy that came to our shop with all lights on had ridden app. 12 mi. that way, from Mt. Juliet TN. to Lebanon TN. We were concerned about his cams and cam journals, but a check showed no signs of noth'in abnormal... Don't you just love cheap & easy fixes???... Congrats.
