A Soul Singer With A Twist

"The arts ard what separates us from the animals, or something close to that" - Some old dead white guy

A few emotional responses .... That's good .... Ai is not only opening some doors it's creating doors to open . Legally artists cannot " copyright " their voices so they go a different route " trademarking " their voice . There are one Hell of a lot of protest videos out there using some algorithm to knock off Neil Young's voice .... I don't know what combination of voices was used to create Jada but I do detect a little Aretha in there somewhere ...... Ai is going to bring questions to define just exactly what art is ..... Personally I don't think it's an answerable question .... But just for giggles ......Who is the artist ? .....Some guy in the Campbell's soup advertising department or Andy Warhol ? ....

Who the he!! would want to replicate Neil Young's Voice?🤮
Sorry, not sorry, to any fans of his singing. I am not. (the guy can write a good song, though)

Actually I used the wrong artist . The voice " simulated " in the protest videos is Gordon Lightfoot .... Sorry about that ...,.

I value the human experience, for me art at the minimum needs human suffering, suffering as in; it took effort to create. I don't care for all art, I don't care for a banana taped to the wall, I care even less for phaux art created by AI.

Food is a rich and diverse world where each ingredient, each meal can be enjoyed or disliked by each individual human being. You take all the meals in the world and combine them together, you'll get a nasty looking paste that tastes like shit, that's what AI is going to do for us when it comes to art. Look at what increased global communication has done for us (news, internet, social media, etc.), it has improved certain things for us if you care for statistics and other numbers, but for the human it has created an angsty world full of doubt, fear, anger and purposelessness. We have a loneliness epidemic, suicide numbers only go up, teenagers only see a bleak future with the world on fire, depression and mental illness is rising. We are not made (evolved) to know all the misery in the world, it makes us sick.

AI is going to take the above and make it 10 times worse. You give people Naitflix with a magical button that conjures up the perfect TV series perfectly suited and dynamically adjusted to your taste (so called "art") and they will find even less reason to go outside, to smell air, to talk to other people, to have children, to find a lover, or (my god the horror) take the risk of even touching a motorcycle and understand how that feels. This goes for music, paintings, movies, series, books, you name it, I am shit scared for the future if this is it, we will freely plug ourselves into the matrix and choose mindless consumption of "the most perfect art" over real world experiences, to be in the dirt, to fail, to have pain, to bear children, to live.

I am being very dramatic here, I know, but this is what is see AI leading to, and most people will just gobble this up like mindless sheep, so I resist, I want the authentic real human experience, I want to be in the dirt. You understand most young people will never ride a motorbike, or even get close to understanding what that experience is like because those are perceived as death machines from a time long gone? They sit inside doom scrolling on their phones (lots of older people too for that matter) sending messages to fake friends instead of meeting in real life. Just look at the statistics: the youth is not going outside, they have less friends, are less social, have way more anxiety, have less sex, less children (those last two might be related), and less interactions than ever measured before. AI is a MAJOR instigator in only making this worse, way, way worse.

I don't believe in skynet killing us off in 10 years, but I do see a slow collapse of society because we forget how to be human.

Edit:
I have no issue with AI itself, I use it myself to code and leverage technical skills, I see a useful place for AI there. I take issue with AI detracting from the human experience.

Nicely stated

If I'm still around in the 2040's I'll be looking forward to the next cultural revolution where the young people, seeing the state of humanity, will rebel against the digital overlords and learn to become human again. I just hope they leave the fascination with drugs out of it this time.

Certainly there already is a growing movement of younger people done with it all, they value music on physical media again, like all kinds of retro things, some ride old motorbikes or older cars, love to see it! No idea as to the size of this group and if it is going to make a dent, I hope so.

I didn't post this to take a side on " defining art " .... I posted it because the subject is worth discussing .... I use it myself to make cartoons but mostly to restore 100+ year old family photos. But in using Ai I have learned a bit about how it works and tries to police itself . For example if I ask it to create a caricature of smiling children throwing eggs at a mosque/synagogue it won't do it ..... But if I ask it to create an image of children bouncing tennis balls off a wall while smiling it will . Then I take it to another Ai site and ask it to change the wall into a Mosque or Synagogue .And then in another post change the balls to eggs . Depending on how subtle I am going about it, I can usually pull it off ..... { full disclosure I haven't tried this particular example as it isn't what I believe in . But I have conned it into doing what I want after initial rejections on several occasions }

Am I not discussing the subject?

You've hit another criticism of mine here, if we communicate with each other through AI, may it be with imagery, video or text, it will effectively be big tech companies censoring us, corporate authoritarianism. This issue already exists with social media and the like, but again, AI will make this worse.

Again, talking about the youth (but applies to all, I just worry more about the youth), they will stay inside even more, communicating with each other through digital means, and why use those pesky fingers to type if you can just let AI create a text. So we communicate with a foggy layer of AI in-between us muddying our vision of reality even more than it already is.

You are not making cartoons...sorry, you're just not if you tell an AI to make something for you. The enhancing of 100 year old photos is a really cool application of AI though.

I didn't make any comment on what you were doing . I drew attention to why I started the thread ..... When I am addressing someone personally I use the reply button ...... { As I did here } ....Nor did I claim " I " was making cartoons . As a matter of fact I was careful in choosing my words ... " ask it { Ai } to create " was how I put it ...... And Ai can make mistakes even in photos ..... The below picture is a 100 year old picture of my Grand Parents . Ai made it razor sharp and detailed . It is so sharp that if you take it into Photoshop and blow it up you can see the details of the framed photo under the lamp on the table . Blowing it up shows a little girl holding flowers . I have that photo and it is of my mom when she was around 20 years old not a little girl ..... If I were to go back with my photo and ask Ai to replace it, it would. I just haven't got around to it yet ....

Would use another example if you didn't believe in doing that.... Wouldn't even mention it.

Because I wanted to point out how Ai is policing itself . And whether the method works ..... It attempts to not allow racism { among other things } ..... But it can be got around with careful wording ...... I used an extreme example to illustrate how I would go about getting around their rules ......,
