    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    All just opinions but for me the "T" was a much more comfortable and desirable bike than the "L". It seems the "L"'s are pretty abundant in the GS world, but the "T" doesn't come up that often... I'm not in the mkt. but to me this should be a pretty nice project for somebody... Looks reasonable...

    That's not at all how it works...Those teeth don't find neutral, they only turn the shift drum forward and backward... The movement of the drum is what finds neutral. Oh sorry, didn't notice you were new... Welcome and congrats on the GS, a lot to learn but you'll get there.

    No guarantees but for some reason I'm thinking the "80" slotted may be a smaller dia. than the earlier solid... but for sure will weigh less.

    Warped sprocket?

    On center stand, in neutral, turn wheel while watching or feeling slack in chain. If proper slack for a while then gets tight... That would be a ??? "Tight Spot".

    A misaligned wheel won't make a tight spot in a chain... Or I can't imagine how it could. As long as you have the correct adjusters on your bike, just the plain old simple regular adjustment, as is done each time the rear wheel is installed, with the marks on the swingarm is fine

    The diagnosis seems really reasonable, but what else could it be? Hanging idle is fairly common but don't remember weak springs on advancer being the fix... Don't remember what else the fix may be...

    Sorry, nothing like that in our part of the world... Would like to see yall's complete paint job for "78" GS1000, it seems we always got the worst color schemes over here... Heck we never even got a "Red & White" GS1000S.

    Aligned properly and messed up, then misaligned and all is good??? Pretty odd, wouldn't you think? Would think tight spot in chain, but misaligning the wheel wouldn't fix that... I have no clue but hope we learn what's happening.

    I'd like it a lot better if had the old roller bearing crankshaft, it would have probably negated much of your headaches and expense... Congrats, Great to hear she's sorted and up and going again in less than a year... Now, What's next???
