A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Why paint a PT Cruise..?

I can hear you snickering at just the question..;) PT Cruisers have become the butt of so many jokes, but when I bought mine back in Jan. 2001..people were standing in line and waiting sometimes months to get one. There was a time when you couldn't swing a dead cat w/o hitting one..now, not so...

    From 78c to 79s clone

I've never used a decal kit before, so I was wondering if after painting the parts white, could it be easier to lay the decal stripes on and let them lay where they will, spray a couple of coats of clear to hold and protect them and then paint the red inside of them..? That might save the...

    From 78c to 79s clone

Hey, Chuck. Are you sanding the plastic filler using water? Plastic absorbs water real easily..you'll want to be careful if you are. You might even skim coat the entire area where you have plastic filler to bring it all together. Sanding the entire surface with dry 80-100 grit will set you...

    Blue 78 1000C in Texas

Red & white S's were illegal in the U.S.? Is that because of different emissions or something..? Why would a color scheme be illegal? Just curious. I almost painted mine red when I was doing it, if for no other reason then being rare compared to blue ones.

Post a picture of your custom GS

I'm pretty sure they need to be turned around to be correct. They work both ways but I think they're in-correct the way they're mounted.

    Damaged Goods

I love riding the North Cascades..beautiful scenery and curvy for miles and miles..doesn't get much better. I miss going to the Isle of Vashon and the Tiddler Tour, also. Some great excuses to ride over some of the most beautiful mountain passes in Washington.

Are the rear shocks on backwards..? I thought the reservoirs were in back.

Gas Tank dent removal and paint

I, too, would strip and/or sandblast the tank down to bare metal first. That will reveal all evils and then you can decide what else might need to be repaired at the same time.

    Gravity Silver Metallic

Such an unusual color for a Suzuki. Even if you get the colors close..chances are no one will ever say.."hey..that color's just not quite right"..because no ones seen it before. A silver/gray that is close would be easy to find if you go to an auto paint store and look at their chip samples...

    1981 GS1000G - cleanup

Just read through your last page of posts and you were talking about how to re-finish your exhaust. Sanding chrome, no matter what grit, will never hold the paint. Chrome is such a hard surface, it really needs to be sand blasted. It will clean off the rust and prepare your pipes for VHT...

    The turd

Turned out real nice, Chuck. You should be proud of the work you've done and to receive that as a gift from you and his son is above and beyond generous.

    1981 Kawasaki GPz550: Restoration

I road raced a VF500F Interceptor several times in the 750 production class..and got on the podium every time. Those babies are sweet..they haul a$$ and they handle like they're on rails. I would embarrass the 750s in the tight stuff, and they could just nip me down the straights. Amazing...

    The turd

Yeah. You did what I would do. I used to set the 2 parts on a table top and line up the bottoms of the parts and then apply the stripes. The problem is that the parts sometimes don't line up once they're mounted on the bike..and you're left with shimming one or the other (usually the tail...

    The turd

Do the tail section and seat trim stripes line up when installed.. Gonna bust yer balls a bit if they don't.. Nice work, Chuck.

You've come a long way, Chuck, since sending me your parts to paint. Seriously. Your work has been fun to watch these past few years..you have snatched the pebble from my hand, Grasshopper. ;)

I finally finished the repair on my tank.

Turned out really nice. You should be quite pleased.

    Experience with ColorRite paint.

Quality urethanes are pricey..especially if you go with (and it's a good idea to) an entire system, primer, base coat and clear coat with the same brand reducers and hardeners. You get what you pay for in most cases. ColorRite is a good product. I've used it a couple of times and their color...

Source for 1978 gs1000 burnt orange pinstripes

+1 3M pinstripe tape is the best. It costs a bit more, but is SO much better. Any auto body paint store can take care of you. They have..or should have..a vast collection of colors and sizes...even the double gold stripe already done so you lay them both at the same time.

Coming right along, Chuck. Everything has really shaped up since you started this project.

Maybe we could get you one of those straps that you attach your glasses to so your camera can just hang off your neck till it's needed..:D Seriously though, Chuck..you're moving right along with this project. We'll look forward to the updated pics.
