A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Cavalcade brakes

Haven't done brake work in a while but I'm cleaning all three calipers on this just bought 86 Cavalcade. They aren't too bad,no rusty fluid.. Seems like the pucks are way too tight going back together. I thought pucks just slid freely in and out. Using air took a lot of pressure to pop them...

    81 gs 250 t

I'm looking at this bike because it's cheap, has a title and needs tlc. Perfect! But the realistic side sez don't go overboard. Without much self restraint I could make this the most expensive gs 250 in history. But if I did a nice light cleanup both mechanical and cosmetic I don't see it going...

    Big touring bike

New forks on today. The lower triple was bent so I used the complete new steering stem assembly that came with it. A bit of work involved because of the bits and pieces that had to be removed. Everything slid into place OK and tomorrow I'll repaint the black part of the wheel and install it...

    Total Electrical Replacement

How about splicing in a tight space, under ground vault,a couple of thousand pair cables, that's 2000 26ga wires and you're working two pair from the interagency 911 system.Don't slip with that knife.

    Cavalcades

So here's the info on the issue that the previous owner was dealing with.He was coming into his driveway, which is gravel and grass, wife on the back, and swung a tad wide and caught on the concrete base of his mailbox. Twisted the forks and snapped the stiffening brace between the forks...

    Cavalcades

Just put things away in the shop where I just placed the 86 Cavalcade. Now this one I bought as a runner but has some fork problems for $500.He was asking $1500.Down from previously asking 2500. So I came in and sat down at the computer looking at motorcycles for sale and guess what? 86 Cavalcade...

Thanks for fixing the picture. Well I like this one but not too hot about the gray/silver color. How critical is lobe position when checking valve clearances?

Spot on is finding exact tdc of cyl 1 with a degree wheel and dial indicator. It's the only way to know the piston is truly at the top. It is a little involved but dead nuts accurate.Make a wire pointer that points to the edge of your degree wheel. Screw in a positive stop bolt in the spark...

How critical is lobe position when checking valve clearances?

A degree wheel and dial indicator will get you spot on at every lobe. Not that hard to use.

If the 1100s been sitting for a while it wouldn't hurt to clean and new carb kits. It could be a sticking float needle on that one which is a sign the other three are ready to follow.
