    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

  • In order to help others find info on a particular bike, be sure to put the year, make or model of bike that you are asking a question about, in the Topic Title. This will allow people to pass by posts they have no interest in.

Big touring bike

I've kept my eye out for a GK for years. They pop up from time to time. There was a nice one here in Santa Fe a while back that got away as I couldn't act soon enough. The GK is still on my "someday" list if it works out.

Not sure what will become of the Venture I was gifted last week. I haven't had time to do anything with it yet.

Looking through the service records for my 2003 FJR, apparently it has already had the transmission rebuilt. This was in 2012 and the bike only had 23k miles on it.

The dealer's shop repair order says "it makes a sudden slip in second gear while accelerating hard".

Long list of parts, $675
14hrs of Labor $1,035

Ouch!

My only peave about the FJR's shifting is the rough clack it makes going into first gear while stopped. I try to avoind that whenever possible. Not sure if it hurts anything, it just makes me cringe.

That was one of the fun parts of my Sportster. CLANK! "Don't pussyfoot around, take your left heel and stomp me into first!"

Have you seen Mr. Bill lately? Next time you see him, have him shift his Spyder into gear.

I thought there was something wrong with my wife's Spyder, but have learned that they ALL do that.
Probably similar to Rob's Sportster, but I haven't been near one lately for comparison.

My friends '07 venture royal stopped shifting altogether. The spring on the shift drum detent broke. Have to remove right saddlebag and the entire right side exhaust just to get the clutch cover off.
 
'07 is a V-twin, right? Not sure if that would be any easier than the V-4, just not sure when the V-4 Venture ended.

Yamaha supposedly fixed the trans problem in 85 after serial# 0001413.So anything after that must be operator error.:cool:
 
Well tomorrow I'm picking up an 86 Cavalcade with 56,000 miles. Supposedly everything working runs and rides. $500. Looks nice. I'll have more info by tomorrow night.

Funny thing, on the FJR forum, guys are talking about going smaller. As in a smaller sport touring motorcycle. After riding the FJR for three years, I'm kind of thinking the same thing. I went to the Triumph dealership last weekend and sat on a Tiger 900 GT low and loved it! It fit me like a freaking glove! Do I need two Sport Tourer's in my garage? No, well maybe... FJR for west of the Mississippi river, Tiger for east of the Mississippi.🤔
 
Got it home today. $500 clean title and I got collector plates with it.It's definitely a big boy.So I don't know the models so I'll have to read up on it.It has air chambers in the seat and air adjustable suspension but no cruise.I'm going to have to get help getting it off the trailer but then it will have to sit a few weeks anyway cause I promised my 40 Buick and 52 Ford pickup I'd have them done before winters over. So by late spring I should have the cavalcade done.View attachment 62093

Thanks for fixing the picture. Well I like this one but not too hot about the gray/silver color. So I'm thinking about painting it.I really like blue so I'm thinking about the brilliant blue on 60s Chevelles/camaro. Mid 80s 911s, mopar B5 biue and the like. The Suzuki has different shade panel painting on it but I would do a one shade. I'm going to go for a ride when the rain quits in the next week or so.
