A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    CV carbs vs other carbs...

IN a nutshell, CVs compensate for elevation changes, and helped when getting carbureted bikes through the EPA was a problem. The Other carbs do no elevation compensation at all, but they are easier to tune and have much quicker throttle response. Most riders prefer them, except the guys like...

Potential Group Purchase - Wiseco GS650 741cc pistons

I would like the two I agreed to, I'm guessing one at .08mm and one at .09 or .10? Not sure, not going to take it apart just to see what thickness I need.

    78 GS550 fuel in engine

The '77 has VM carbs, if a bad petcock causes the carbs to overflow it should come out the float bowl overflow tubes under the engine, it should NOT go into the crankcase like the later CV carbs with their EPA mandated lack of overflow tubes. Either way you need to do something about the petcock.

Finally getting around to the 550/699 project....

Doing fine, the bike is good. The 675cc version is a completely different animal than the stock 550, way more fun to ride, more capable everywhere. I think the 740cc version will be better. The problem is the 675 is good enough that making it better isn't a high priority. Bought the parts...

    clutch rod seal install.

I went through all of the GS550 parts diagrams, they show a seal holder for all years. A few changes over the years, but they all had something, and they all had bolts to hold the holders in.. The fact that yours has no mounting holes is very strange. What is the engine number?

    Right caliper spacing OK?

Might be a wheel bearing issue. A lot of people don't put the bearings in correctly, it results in the wheel being offset to one side. The Suzuki Service Manual shows the correct procedure, the others don't.

Any trick to adjusting the fuel jets on 550 carbs while still on the bike?

What are you trying to adjust exactly? On my 550 I can remove the float bowls and access all of the jets with the carbs on the bike, not easy but it is possible with the right tools. I wouldn't bother except the carbs are a bitch to remove with the stock 550 airbox. Removing the slide to...

Replace the valve seal? Yes. The guides too?

Time doesn't matter on valve clearances, its strictly a wear thing. If it was done correctly a few years ago theres no reason to do it again unless there are some miles put on since then.

Replace the valve seal? Yes. The guides too?

Valve guides on the eight valve engines and others with a similar valve and cam arrangement don't wear much under normal conditions, especially on the big bikes like GKs that are mostly used for gentle cruising. All of the forces acting on the valves are in a straight line, there's nothing to...
