    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Gear Update Time

Rev-it & Klim are my favorites outside of my Motoport Gear (which has held up about 14 years & counting although it needs to go back for new elastic & velcro now) or Aerostich are also well thought of but I've never had any (Nardy's love theirs...). I had Rukka for a while, that was good gear...

    Brake disc interchangeable between models

The larger single brake model discs don't interchange with the dual brake ones and the oldest of the dual brake models (1978/1979) discs don't work with the newer calipers but other than that have at it... :)

    Africa

Please use your connections to get the Africa Formula One race going... Lewis will be most grateful. (He's recently said he wants to race one there before he retires & he's starting to get old!!!)

    Swingarm

It's been done on an 1100E by Posplayr & others. Have a look. You have to have bushes welded on for the shocks to connect to & some bikes need a convertor for the bearing... Main advantage is allows a wider wheel/tyre combo, not weight.

    TRO.bike "777" Tour (7 Riders, 7 States, 7 Days)

On the to do list but not this year... Too many relatives with "big" birthdays and busy kids!

    Gel battery

I prefer AGM over Gel from personal experience. They are hardier. Li-ion is the least hardy of all of them so far in my experience. I think when the actual storage capacity nears that of an AGM (like the REALLY expensive big ones from Antigravity) for a reasonable price then it will be the way...

    It's about time! (Pun intended)

Yeah.. I've been moaning about it for years. For those of us who work internationally a lot it's a nightmare every year (all countries seem to pick different days to do it on too.....)

Thoughts about the website in general

I always direct people from Facebook back to here... Facebook is an awful interface & only about 30% of what is written there really makes any sense (and most of that is coming from members here anyway...) :)

    Welcome to the nuthouse... :p:)

GS300L starts and idles but bogs with throttle

Sometimes carb problems are actually ignition problems.... just saying :) I had an issue similar to that on a GS1000G where the "ignitor" box was shot. There is a test in the Clymer manual for it. I think you'll have electronic advance but if it's mechanical check that it is free & the springs...

    1980 GS1000S frame and parts

I can see it on Facebook, definitely looks like the right footpegs, the choke is in the right place for an 80 too I think (the pull up knob at the steering head... Hard to see anything on the pipes. Weird that they look so much cleaner than some of the other parts. A lot of rust on those rearset...

    Rockauto is not BS!

Yes, there pricing is good. One thing to watch out for is they have multiple shipping points. Once you add something to cart other parts that come from the same warehouse are then marked when you search the list... sometimes it's worth paying a $ or two more for the part to save the added...

Perhaps the most convoluted oil change I've ever done (KTM)

Yeah the Husky TE610 had a couple of filters etc etc... pain in the butt. :) The Tenere is no more difficult than a GS (or the KLR) and the air filter is just as easy if not easier too. I like that part for sure. :)
