DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Sharing my results after fine tuning my '79 GS1000

Elevation makes a difference too. Also be aware that some people will be using Dynojet Kit & the jets are not comparable size markings, the sizes marked on a Dynojet would be a bigger number, from memory (it was a long time ago like 15 years of something since I last messed with mine).... 135 DJ...

    Different handlebars

The Euro is my favourite for the 1980G models. I had a Daytona on my 82G I think or maybe it was the one taller version as the Daytona was too far forward. I'm only 5'8" though.... Surprising how much more stretched the 82 is over the 80 G models. :)

    Just used it, thanks! :)

    The American Revolution

PBS is great... Some of it can be achieved with a VPN to the BBC but that's also under threat. In this same sort of vein I read a good book recently.... Anyone who likes to read & likes this show might also like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Demon_of_Unrest All his books are...

Greatest TV Show of All Time

I grew up on Knight Rider.... (and CHiPs...) oh... and the A team, a little bit of Airwolf & Streethawk.... :) Funny I had exactly zero intention of ending up in California but maybe it was my calling! :biggrin-new:

    Different handlebars

Superbike, Daytona or Euro Cafe are the usual suspects.... :) Z1 has some or Google works..... Emgo is one well known brand. https://www.z1enterprises.com/handlebars-mirrors-and-controls.html?p=4

    ’79 GS850G caliper rebuilt kits

If you use the newer calipers 80+ you need to use the newer rotors with them from memory.... If you're not bothered about originality that bike also works with the Twinpot caliper and CBR rotors upgrade. :) Linky here...

Front OEM shock spring specs for '79 GS850G

If you're much heavier you can always cut the close wound springs off the progressives & replace it with a solid spacer. That turns them into about a 52lb straight weight spring from memory. Somewhere between 0.9 and 1 kg mm. A lot of heavier guys kind of effectively do that already by really...

Some 3D Printed Parts for 8 valve 750s

That should be the right one for a 80-1000G going from memory of what mine had on it.... :)

Front OEM shock spring specs for '79 GS850G

I think I might have a set of progressives I bought off someone here & never used... They would be for a 1000 or 1100 so will be the same for an 850G I would think. I can take a look on the shelf if you're interested. PM me an email or cell phone number & I can send pics. :)

Maybe the most "cobbled-together" bike I have ever purchased!

There is a chance I have some turn signals (or at least the plastic lenses) and a center stand for you… I may also have some headlight brackets. I think the 1100 was the one that used the 9” light.

Twinpot Brake upgrade on 78 Skunk

Got some pics? As KikDrum18 has been kind enough to share a file for his brackets after tweaking if there is demand I might get a few of the brackets made up. This has been done by collaboration before but I’ve never had someone come back at the end and give me a final bracket...

Maybe the most "cobbled-together" bike I have ever purchased!

Also has a plastic front fender off an 1100. There’s no way that was ever an L. All the parts are wrong and wouldn’t fit an L frame. If the Title says L I think you got what the UK call a “ringer” (where a VIN number is taken from a wreck and placed on a stolen or untitled frame in order to use...

    Hello, Dolly!

My mate used one. It worked ok. Better on the sidestand than the centrestand. More stable.

Lane splitting and other things wrong

Quite often see 3 cop cars parked up with lights on, 2 kids & a skateboard on the side of the road...... :) To be honest if it was any of us personally who needed them, you'd want them to send the 20 cars I suppose! The other side of this is that they mandate "no follow" and then they get even...

    Aftermarket start/killswitch

Yeah the right side is pretty simple. Just an on/off rocker & a momentary press switch. Be careful not to pinch the wires when it goes back together, pretty easy done & will blow a fuse every time you hit the starter....
  19. salty_monk

    Aftermarket start/killswitch

You definitely can… as long as you wire it up right. :) I think Mikes XS has some nice looking retro ones. You need something pretty simple obviously and something with a throttle tube that will work on our 7/8” bars.

    Krauser Saddlebags

Yeah that looks like what I had on the 1000G. Setup looks about right. Mine had stock turn signals with shortened stems that I believe were supplied with the cases when new. Great set of bags. :)
