    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello everyone! I have a 1982 GS650G, currently my kill switch is wearing out. I can hear the relay engaging and disengaging when I barely touch the switch. My worry is that I will be riding when the switch goes out on me, leaving the bike dead where it stands.

I have had some trouble finding an OEM switch assy. So I'm wondering if I can just buy one off of a different motorcycle or even a universal one. Has anybody done this before? Thank you!
 
You definitely can… as long as you wire it up right. :)

I think Mikes XS has some nice looking retro ones. You need something pretty simple obviously and something with a throttle tube that will work on our 7/8” bars. :cool:
 
I took apart the left hand controls on my '79 and cleaned everything. It's pretty easy to do and could fix your problem - just be careful when taking apart any buttons as they all have springs that'll fly into the abyss if you let them. I haven't specifically done the right side/killswitch, but from what I've seen on the turn signals and horn, I can't imagine that it would be to difficult.

Yeah the right side is pretty simple. Just an on/off rocker & a momentary press switch.

Be careful not to pinch the wires when it goes back together, pretty easy done & will blow a fuse every time you hit the starter....

think that switch is part of your throttle assembly, so you need sperate throttle to put on standalone switch, so motion pro push pull to take care of that, just use pull throttle part, honda type seams best on old GS, K&S #12-0203 yamaha type works real nice for kill switch, 4 wire to go to your 3 wire setup one set of wires gets ganged together power feed very simple, or just put a separate button for the kill on your bike unless whole thing is FUBAR
