I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

E10, Phase Separation, and Water in the Fuel Tank

Chemically speaking I don't think this is strictly true, there are lots of ways to oxidize iron. Toss in some concentrated hydrogen peroxide and pool acid and you'll get a real mess in no time flat. I would definitely believe that gas in the tank could act as an inert protective coating against...

very good to know, thank you! I'll likely do the same.

Electrical gremlins affecting indicator lights and starter circuit

I'm wondering if anyone is able to tell me whether the frame panel that my starter solenoid, fuse box, and inverter are wired to is supposed to have continuity to ground, and if so, how it's supposed to be grounded? The metal panel these are all mounted to is welded to the battery box, and both...

    High-ethanol fuel conversion?

Everything I've heard about pure ethanol is that if your engine can be set up properly for it, it runs cleaner and cooler, is more resistant to knock, and produces more power per stroke on account of it comes with oxygen pre-installed. Also, we can make it right here in my town, instead of...

    High-ethanol fuel conversion?

Howdy folks, I've got a notion in my head currently that's got me curious about the possibility of running my '83 1100E to run on high-ethanol fuels, E85, E98, or even E100! I'm aware that some significant rejetting is normally involved in this, and also that E100 frequently has ignition...

Hi Nick, I'm in the market for a clutch basket and an ignition (preferrably with key) for a '83 1100E, any chance you have either of these to sell?

Electrical gremlins affecting indicator lights and starter circuit

My hunch is this gonna come down to the ignition. PO replaced the front end with one off a '96 Katana (he said), and the ignition got swapped as well - maybe the original didn't fit any more. The current one is off a Kawasaki (based on what my locksmith told me) and it's *zip tied on*. I suspect...

Electrical gremlins affecting indicator lights and starter circuit

I checked this btw, this bike doesn't even have a clutch switch. It looks like PO took it off.

Electrical gremlins affecting indicator lights and starter circuit

OK, I ran my battery out this morning testing the idle and making sure it started reliably, and I don't have a jump pack handy so I'm waiting for it to trickle charge right now before I try to start it again for testing purposes. However, I poked around the bike a bit more with a multimeter to...

Electrical gremlins affecting indicator lights and starter circuit

I know someone's first response is going to be "check your ground points", which is a very reasonable response. I've checked the main ground jumper from the battery to the frame, no issues that I can tell. I'll disconnect/clean/reattach it just to be sure though. Are there other standard...

Electrical gremlins affecting indicator lights and starter circuit

Howdy folks, I just got my project 83 1100E to start up again after I un-fixed it when I got it back from the mechanic last year  I'm still dealing with some electrical issues though. I thought I was halfway decent at reading a wiring diagram, but the diagrams in the service manual are...

Yes absolutely, that'll probably be a tomorrow project!

'83 1100E very hard starting, starter motor switching directions

Oh lordy I got it to start up! 18 months in the making, what a feeling haha After all this work and guessing it seems like I just didn't understand how the throttle stop screw worked and I had it closed too tight so it was choking off one of the pilot feeder passages. I'm almost afraid to call...

'83 1100E very hard starting, starter motor switching directions

Getting back into the carbs is reminding me of something I was meaning to ask about. The service manual and the carb cleaning guide document I followed both make reference to a pilot air jet that's threaded into a passage molded into the air intake funnel on the filter side of the throttle body...

'83 1100E very hard starting, starter motor switching directions

I currently have the carbs off the bike again, I have a lingering qualm in my head about whether the idle circuits got cleaned thoroughly so I'm planning to run a guitar wire through them to ream them out and be sure, I just need to go get a string small enough to fit... My plan at this point is...

I have, the only filter I know of on this bike is a transparent in-line filter the PO installed. It looks clean, nothing visible trapped in there. I have also confirmed there is gas flowing into the float bowls by draining them, cranking the battery, and draining them again.

'83 1100E very hard starting, starter motor switching directions

I have tried a jump box, nothing doing. I also had a big 12v deep cycle marine battery i jumpered to the battery to work on it, which kept it cranking for extended periods of testing but didn't make the bike any more likely to fire up. I have found fairly consistently that the bike will start up...

'83 1100E very hard starting, starter motor switching directions

The bike is still refusing to turn over, no change in that department. Here's where I'm at currently: 1. Aside from the intermittent issue with the starter switch circuit shorting out, there appears to be nothing wrong with the ignition or starter electrical systems. I've checked continuity and...

'83 1100E very hard starting, starter motor switching directions

Hi, It's me, I'm back. I got bogged down with house maintenance projects for a few months, but I've been chipping away at the things listed in y'all's responses as well. Since I last posted, I've done a fair amount of work to the bike, including some work on the clutch basket, replacing the...

what's a normal amperage draw for a starter motor? I've tried to find the manufacturer design spec for the OEM motor but haven't had much luck.
