    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm seeing this and considering a buy.
1982 GS1100E
Barn find, not running in years, claimed to be mostly complete, engine turns over.
30,000 miles, has title.
Looks like it needs all the work, plus the unknown crap surprise.
Asking $1600.

Well I probably would....I know, that's not likely a surprise. But my 82 gs1100e is probably my favorite old bike to ride. Mine was rougher than that one and no original exhaust.
I paid around $1200cdn for mine....but it needed to be painted, and all the other usual stull
Carbs, polish cases, do a valve check, plugs, stainless steel brake lines, suspension....etc
I have over $4000 into mine but worth every penny to me :)
 
Well, 30K and not running, price seems a little steep. if you were looking for a project anyway I'd probably say yes, give it a go. ... If you just saw it and thought that is cheap, I'll buy it, fix it up, and make some money on it, I think I'd probably sit back and scratch my head a little more about it... Not an end of the world problem unless it breaks but the early "82's" still had the small end crankshaft... That is the prettiest color of the 2nd. gen. GS1100E...Good luck and keep us updated... No doubt, saving a GS is always a good thing.
 
I bought mine for $500 as a basket case. I have $5k in it now. I know my brakes, charging etc. are good now and those are maintenance on a better start too. I could have bought a nice 83 that was gone through a few years ago for $3k though.
So, if you like working on bikes sure buy it. If you just want an 1100E though I would probably wait for one that someone else spent the money on already. I can't help but inspect every project that comes up though.
The 1100E is a pretty darn nice bike to ride however and I like to see them all saved,
