1980 gs1000e what carbs should be fitted as standard

Rijko Yes very happy, Just had them sonically cleaned and set up, bike ticks over nicely and no flat spots anywhere all the way to full throttle,

What a great site this is, Totally clueless to what carbs I had, 4 hours later thanks to everyone's help, I now know exactly what I have and what I need, Thanks Again !!!

Ahh I must have the Wrong carbs fitted ! The bike runs well, Just after intake boots as they're showing signs of a slight seeping of fuel, I take it if they work their ok on my bike ?

Where does that leak occur ?
Are the boots hard ?

Usually, it the boots are bad, it sucks IN false air. (not leak fuel out)
And starts spitting/coughing through the pods... but you say she's running right.

Seeping of fuel may point to a bad petcock, bad carb float valve needle/seat, or both.

Hope your oil level is not too high (leaking can have gas enter the engine and raise oil level)
Recommend to take off the oil filler cap and smell for fuel.

Correct me if I'm wrong "AGAIN", but I don't remember any VM28's on Suzuki's, Kawasaki did have the VM28's & they were a direct bolt-on for the Suzuki's. Jusy say'in.

Yes she's running fine, The seeping is on the bottom of the intake boots - Engine side, Its more like a yellow/brown stain under all four,I act changed the oil yesterday, no smell of signs of fuel, and petcock is only four month old, Should I just ride it for now and see what develops ?

correction ;)

VM28SS was standard on the Euro GS1000SN, some E's and L's.

Yes. Clean the old stuff as well as you can so a new seeping will be clearly new.
It could be a PO had issues and solved them, you may not have a problem at all.

Will do, Thanks for all the advice, most appreciated

Also I never remember a kick starter on any GS1000. Just my opinion.

Damn, you're right. Just about every other GS had them as late as '79. Looks like Suzuki was confident enough in their electric foot to drop the manual kicker entirely. Of course, the drive to save weight on the 1000 engine probably helped that decision.

That's *exactly* the reason.
In 1977, the Suzuki engineers got the order to build a 1000 cc engine, lighter than the GS750.
To accomplish that ao things they dropped the kickstart mechanism.

I love the GS1000 engine but i regret that decision.
How i love the kickstart on my GT750 and Z900 ..

Just a thought on the picture of the carb set, the idle adjuster knob is on the top. A gs1000 with VM carbs, 26 or 28 the adjuster was on the bottom between 2 and 3. So that set could be from a 750 or a 79 850g.

Wasn't the first year of the 16 valve, 1100 (1075) cc 1980? So I thought the last year of the 1000E was 1979.

Not sure about the States but we still had a chain-driven 8-valve GS1000 in 1980, as well as the new 16-valve model - GSX1100ET to us Brits.

Yep, I've had all of them, "80" GS1000E, & "80" GS1000G, both 8 valve & GS1100's 16 valve. Don't forget the "80" GS1000S, it was an 8 valve, with CV carbs. & funky petcock, the "79" GS1000S had VM carbs. & a decent petcock

Yes, the 1100 came out in 1980 with a 16-valve head.
Not sure about the existence of a 1000E in 1980, but there was definitely a 1000S, known as the "Wes Cooley" model.

See above comment.

Back to the original poster (ste gs1000), as you can see, there can be a bit of confusion regarding the year of the bike. The definitive answer should be on the steering neck. There should be a plate there with the exact model and serial number. Yeah, that will be for the FRAME, somebody could easily stuff a different engine in there. The engine also has a serial number (and they have NEVER matched the frame number), so that can give a clue to the engine's age.

You may have also noticed that there are differences in different world markets. Would you be so kind as to tell us where you are, then add it to your profile? Thanks.

.

Thanks for all the info, all very interesting reading,
I've updated my profile, I'm from UK Newcastle upon Tyne

If you're talking UK (Upper Kentucky), Their "80" GS1000E models were a beautiful blue metallic & deep red metallic. If UK (Ukraine), I haven't a clue.

Wrong paint schemes for Upper Kentucky, those pictures must be for Ukraine models.
