If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

1980 GS1000S Progress!!

Funny how something like that can matter when it comes to price, if that is truly the only difference.

Was it a case of the first few off the line got the 9k?

Pass if it had anything to do with the final price - these things are just getting more and more sought after all the time.

And that's a good question about why the 9k rpm tacho. I don't know how some ended up with them. My 9k one is on a later bike than the 8500 one (higher frame number) and I very much doubt that either has been changed from original. And that tacho is unique to the S - it is strange.

Just gotta say, vmass..that S looks fantastic. You should be very proud. I remember you telling me that you'd be hard-pressed to get the rest of the bike as nice as the paint..believe me..you done good. LOVE the pipe. :D

1) R/R
2) Stator
3) Stator Cover
4) Stator Emblem

I need to pull the center stand and clean that up. And that will be it for a while, tomorrow I am picking up an old Honda to tinker with.

Thanks again for all the help, It has been a great learning experience and a lot of fun.

So, you ARE able to keep the center stand with the Yoshi exhaust... Cool. And very nice work on this resto, Vmass. Sure the Honda project will be fun, too.

Speaking of center stands, does your '80 S have the 'curved-leg' version? Guess the factory switched to allow for megaphone-type exhaust clearance :-k

1. I have a couple Hondas, what did you pick up?
2. How about some more details/pics on the S in the elevator adventure.

Thanks Frank... I haven't noticed a curve in the center stand. I will take a better look when I pull it off.

It worked without interference with both the Vance and Yosh.

1) I am picking up a 1974 Honda 450K. 8k miles and sitting for the past 14 years in a garage. Current owner bought the bike in 1975 with 1.2k on it. Looks all original and very dirty.

I don't know much about these old Hondas but thought I would give it a go.

2) Due to pending legal actions by local, state and federal officials, I have been advised to refrain from any other discussions in regard to the S in the elevator.:-$

The S looks great. Like a lot of guys here, I've wanted one since I saw them in the bike mags when they were new. Coincidently, I sold this '73 CL450 to finance my GS. They're great bikes. I've got a '74 basket case now. Another funny thing is that the '74 came with a paint job that closely matches your Cooley!

The '74 wasn't nearly as nice!

Thanks! The CL is very different looking than the K I am picking up. I will post a picture when I pick it up. It has the orange and gold/black scheme.

Now, I'm no expert, but I think the K designation was given to all 450's. The K in the vin is followed by a number, 1-7 I think. So a 1974 (the last year) should read CB450K7, or CL450K7. A CB being a street bike with low pipes and a CL being an "enduro" with high pipes. Also, I'm nearly certain that all '74 450's were Blue, Black, and White. There was also some changes in the shape of the tank through the years. I'd bet yours has been repainted or ??? Again, this is all off the top of my head. It could be that only the CLs were BBW.

PERFECT time to adjust the valves. :D

One of the requirements before adjusting the valves is to assure that the engine has not been run for at least 8 hours.

By the way, most of us tend to make sure the bike runs well before spending the time and money on cosmetics. :-k

.

Why is that? You have to wait 8 hours for what?

How's the progress comin along?

For the most part, this bike is done.

I was riding the other night and had a chance to jump on an FJ1200. After watching it go down the road, I expected a smooth and responsive ride.

I was very surprised at how quickly I wanted to back on my Suzuki. The biggest surprise was how I had to fight with the front end on slower turns.

It was actually quite a strange ride. Engine noise and sluggish response was also unacceptable.

I hope to get working on my little Honda 450 project soon. :D

With all the S's popping up, I thought I would add some better, completed pictures:
