I couldn't find the old thread so I will start a new one.
Replay:
September of 2010 I started with this. (Yes, the carbs are hanging and those are cobwebs.)
It became a running bike that looked like this.
Then I painted the wheels, rotors and various other parts. Added the '83 1100E front end and exhaust and it became this.
There was an airbox fire incident that set me back a month or so ago
until I could get her running again that was posted in another thread.
Well the exhaust was never really completed even though I logged over 4,500 miles on her.
After adding the bling to the '78 1000E project and getting it running well,
it was about time to fix the exhaust and add some bling to Goldy!
I thought that I was going to have to dimple the frame to get the exhaust closer and higher up near the brake lever.
Removing the screw that helps secure the heat shield was all that it took there.
No rattle and tight shield. Just enough clearance.
I took the stock rear mounts and inverted them with a section removed to fit tighter and higher up at the rear. (no pic's yet.)
Now for the bling!
I got this interesting set of crash bars from a forum member that I had never seen before so...
I HAD to have them!
Well, they are made of butter disguised as aluminum.
After PLENTY of modifications (cutting, drilling and grinding),
I got them to fit.
I will have to grind off a significant part of this radius so that the roadway doesn't do it for me!
After modifications are complete, I will paint them black with gold trim.
Purely ornamental as they are soft aluminum and would only help if the bike was pushed over when parked.
