I have this spare that came with the 850 but i cant find anything like it on the internet. Does anyone know what this magnet system is called? Or how it works. Any google links in the right direction would be apreciated. I pluged it in as is but its not working. No spark

I’ve lost track of what bike we’re talking about. This thread started about an ‘81 GS 850 that for some reason has VM carbs, and should have already had an electronic ignition. Now I think we’re talking about some other 750 with points?

I didnt actually think of that, is there a way to remove the previous posts to keep it more related to the thread. Only realize now ive jumped a bit off topic

Some country bikes kept points after 1980, and South Africa seems to be one of those countries. Regarding VM carbs, that's a head scratcher, but it is what it is.

The magnetic signal generators are just one piece of the electronic ignition system. You would need the appropriate rotor, wiring, and of course, an ignitor. Or, buy a Dyna S system and put that in. It might be easier to source some new points and condensers.
