Thank you for acceptance to the forum, I see a ton of useful information and experience here to utilize. About 2 weeks ago I ran across an ad for an 81' 1100E on Craigslist that got my attention, I owned an 82' 750E in 88' thru 90' that has always been in the back of my mind as a bike I dearly miss.
I'm a lover of older bikes and own a couple vintage dirt bikes and a 75' CB400 SS I've restored but have been looking for an older street bike I can bring back to dependable rider status and use not just to stare at in the corner taking it out for a ride just now and then. I went to look at the 1100 and turns out being owned by a very eccentric older fella who also had an old Hondamatic 750 and 6 or 7 other older vehicles in non running status. Apparently once he had a problem with one he would park it and buy another.
Story on the 1100 was he bought it in 2000 and rode it through the Alaskan summer even though he said the forks were scary soft up front and leaking. He said it ran great other than the forks and in the fall he drained the oil and did an oil change of which after that it developed a "wump wump" sound while running....he figured a bearing in the bottom end and parked it in the back yard and tossed a tarp over it. Spring came and he bought the Hondamatic.....broke that a couple years later and repeat....
A neighbor apparently complained in 2014 about the vehicles and code enforcement did a check on him making him register the vehicles and show them they would run. The 1100 got a new 14' tag and battery and he said it started right up with new gas allowing it to stay. I do see an after market external oil cooler on it marked as Derail, tires hold air, looks complete and has 19000 miles on the odometer. I picked it up for $300 and it sits out in my shop while I haven't had much time yet to check it out closer. Surprisingly the tank looks pristine inside and does have about a half tank of fuel in it....petcock seems froze up, tender on battery but doubt I'll get a charge out of it.
The title reads 1100E, pipes have 1100EX stamped on them and I see info that there is 1100 G, L, E, EX, E, EZ etc.... g and l are shanties I gather and the rest I'm not sure of the differences if any
???? Or what I actually have???? I'm really looking forward to cleaning this one up and seeing what I have. If it all has to come apart for bottom end work so be it, I wanna put some miles on this old girl.
