A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ed, do you want these pieces powder coated or are you in a hurry to get it done??

Thanks for the offer Tom, but I want to do the painting myself. Would love to set up powder coating like you did...some day, but for now it's going to be liquid paint.

Measured the cylinders last night with a bore gauge. Stock bore size is 66.0mm and service limit is 66.1mm, with no more than .05mm difference between the three measurement positions speced (total of six measurements since each position was measured at 90 degrees).

Set the bore gauge at 66mm (2.5985") then went to work. All the measurement points were consistently between .0018" and .0024" below the standard. Oddly, measuring at the very top and very bottom of the cylinder (where the piston doesn't even swipe) and only found a couple points where the cylinder was nominal, most were still at .0010" below. Bottom line is all cylinders are showing about .0010" of out of round and taper, which is about 1/2 way to the service limit. Will measure the pistons next to determine if they are worn and to determine the piston to cylinder clearance.

Sounds like it needs some precision honing. To make round and remove the taper.
No Ball stuff.

Always thought you bottle brush hone old cylinders. If the out of round and/or taper was bad enough you bored to the next size. In this case, the taper and out of round is within the service limit, so wasn't going to go down that road.

Going to measure the pistons tonight and then judge piston to wall clearance. If it's too large, that may force something different to happen.

If you are still under service limit. Find someone with a Sunnen hone and see if they can get rid of some of the egg and taper. Then rering that puppy and be done with it!!!

I would rather have a straight cylinder with a few more tenths of clearance than a egg shaped one that has been ball honed.

Not much to report. Going to do some more blasting today, and maybe some painting tomorrow.

Gathering parts together is keeping me busy. Bought a late model front master cylinder, but struggling to find a rebuildable core for the rear. All seem to have pitting in the bore.
This is one I got off ebay...which is going in the trash can.

Going in the trash can AFTER the seller refunds your money?

Can't hurt to try.

Seller was cool. Refunded straight away. Finding a good unit is going to be a challange though. One guy on KZr Forum is sending me some photos. Fingers crossed.

Found a great deal on an RK X-ring chain off ebay. Unfortunately, the seller stuck the thing in a paper thin USPS Flat Rate envelop and the thing got loose during shipment. Empty box showed up at the house.:( Needless to say I've asked for a refund, but it's going to be hard to find another for the price I paid ($51 shipped).

Will the seller send another one this time wrapped in several of those envelopes?
I have had many Ebay sellers do just that with good results. (parts that made it to me.)

Ed , you are not having good luck with eBay , I have never bought anything off eBay ever not sure why , lots of deals for sure,Brian

Hi Brian,

I've bought lots of stuff off ebay and while you do run into surprises from time to time, overall I'm a fan. Most people pony up when something goes wrong, or ebay forces them to. That chain was a smoking deal, which is going to be hard to replicate. I don't think the seller is a retailer so doubt he has another laying around. We'll see what he says...

I am very glad there is more honest people then not on there , I hope you find another chain deal ,that is a awesome deal , last one I bought it was a hundred or so and I thought that was a deal , I should shop more around I'm thinking..

Brian

I noticed that Z1 has a selection of X-ring chains recently added to their web site. I don't know much about chains, so I don't know if any of them will fit or if they're any good, but the prices seem reasonable: http://www.z1enterprises.com/ListItems.aspx?promotion=NEW_PARTS_SEP2013&group=7+JT+Chain
I bought one of those JT chains for my 85 750 from my local dealer.Seem to be good quality stuff, time will tell but I'm expecting good service from it.Not a $51 deal but then you never got that.

I found a similar deal on an RK chain on amazon for the RF900. The seller was amazon warehouse deals. It was a 530XSOZ1-110 link for $61. Give them a try.
