A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1981 Kawasaki KZ750 Resurrection

My target was RK 530XSOZ1, EK 530SRX, and D.I.D 530VX. These are the mid priced value chain offerings from these companies. Pulled the trigger on the best price. Second time around found a D.I.D for $55 shipped, less the joining link, which are available for $7.55. Not as cheap as the RK, but good enough. Just hope it doesn't turn out to be the gold version.

Did some painting today. Primed a bunch of parts. Using Transtar Epoxy primer. Seems like pretty good stuff. It's a little chilly to paint but did it anyway. Have a run or two but nothing serious. Might shoot the black tomorrow if I get motivated.

Stay tuned for photos...

Looking forward to seeing it come together Ed, your work is impeccable.

Thanks for the compliment Joe. Wish it were true, but not really.

It was a beautiful day, but a little cold for painting. Didn't let it stop me though. Have a run here or there but not too bad. Brought the parts inside for the night and tucked them in next to the wall heater...

Ah, so there is a useful purpose for those skinny pointy tables with the flimsy legs. Good to know.

Made everything black today. Any color you want as long as it's black.;)

Using Nason urethane and Por-15 Chassis Coat (for the semi-gloss parts). The Nason is awesome. Sprays out really nice and no tenancy to sag. The Chassis Coat sprays like $hit and is a real pain. Got'er done though. Will get a photo up soon...

Looking good Ed... :)

I spent a weekend mostly removing Stucco (from an internal wall!)

Let me know when you want a hand to lift the engine back in the frame...

Very nice Ed! Looks like one heck of a lot of work for one afternoon.
That's going to be one nice looking beastie after you're done with it.

Any problem with surface rust on the recently blasted parts after leaving them sit for those two short weeks?

Hi Dale,

No extra rust formed, but found a few spots I missed the first time. Had to fire up the blast cabinet again for some clean up work before painting.

And speaking of rust...have some engine guards and the brake pedal that was quite rusty, so instead of blasting them (and being there for an hour), dumped them in a tub of metal prep (phosphoric acid). Few hours later and they are clean as a whistle. Gonna scrub them down with scotchbrite, but they are almost ready to paint.

Dang Ed that looks like professional powder coating work. Cool stuff!

Got my chain today and it's not as advertised. Starting to think ebay sucks after all. Chain was supposed to be a D.i.D 530VX but they sent me a 50VA, which is just a elcheapo O-ring jobby. Better than the original I'm sure, but not what I bid on. Awaiting a response from the seller.

Who did you buy it from?

I've bought a few things from Iron pony in the past. No issues with them at all here. I think they will make things right with you.

Yeah, I would be suspicious at that price. Especially when he calls it a VX (an x-ring chain) then says it is an o-ring chain.
Hope he makes good on it.

I have a rear master from a GSXR you could try to adapt if that's useful... :)

Check out amazon warehouse deals. Sometimes you can find really good prices on items, like the 530XSOZ1 I purchased.
