1982 GS1100G Brat Build!

Hey guys! New to the forums, but not motorcycles or GS's. I recently picked up a 1982 GS1100G to build into a brat bike. It had only 13k miles and had been in dry heated storage for 15 years. I got it running, but roughly. Come to find out the spark plug wires were hooked up incorrectly and the carbs needed to be rejetted for the pod filters on the bike. Once that was sorted out, and it was running, I started the modifications.

The frame was cut and a hoop was welded in. Custom seat was made and installed. I had memory foam put in it to make it comfortable, it definitely needed firm foam considering how thin the seat is compared to stock.

The mod list continued as follows:
- Chopped OEM exhaust
- Oval Pod Filters
- Stage 3 Dynojet Kit with needles second clip from bottom
- Drilled slide holes
- Stainless braided brake lines front and rear
- Custom indicator lights integrated into headlight bucket
- Custom push start button integrated into headlight bucket
- Yellow headlight
- Emgo Viper Fairing
- Emgo rear shocks
- New lower handlebars
- Killswitch Delete (key is the only switch now)
- CNC metal throttle tube
- Custom blinkers
- Custom side mounted brake light and license plate
- EBC brake pads front and rear
- Rebuilt all calipers
- New clutch and brake levers and master cylinder
- New oxblood grips
- Engine breather filter
- "Racing" Oil Restrictor Jet
- Tank and side panels painted Porsche "Carrarra Weiss Metallic" off of a Cayman GT4.
- Chopped OEM rear fender, holes filled and painted gloss black
- Chopped OEM front fender and painted gloss black
- New clutch cable
- New throttle cable
- New tachometer cable
- New speedometer cable
- Complete carb rebuild and cleaning
- All fluids flushed and changed with synthetic

That's about it for now. Rebuilding my front forks soon as they seem to be leaking. Going to install progressive springs as well.

Haven't seen many other bratted out 1100's out there.

Anyone else have anything similar?

I have removed my other messages and placed you on my Ignore List. I don't like doing that but it's my way of making sure I don't help anyone running their bike sans mufflers. Given the situation I have changed my opinion from ney to yea regarding the oil restrictor for your bike (and your bike alone).

I suspect that was something of a frankenbike to start with anyway.
Tank and rear fender looks like and L.
Front end looks like a G.

.

My two cents...

Uh, no.

To cut up a stock bike to make a brat is, to me a mistake. Hacked off exhaust, unless the mufflers were literally rotting off the bike is wrong.

The front half does not match the back half, IMO.

That's it. :disillusionment:

Wow. Didn't think I was here to please everyone else. The bike looks great to me and I'm happy with it's transformation. 💪

You are the only one whom you need to please.

I disagree. Running a loud exhaust is a selfish thing to do since it hurts other people. I don't give a crap if someone wants to hack up their bike but running an open exhaust is NEVER acceptable. It hurts the entire motorcycling community, including those of us that follow the laws and care about other people.

Hey Austin,
I'm looking for a nice set of mufflers for my 82 GS 1100 G. What did you do with yours? Let me know if you still have them and they are in good condition.

Agreed!!!!

I couldn't have said it any better.

Yup. A couple of guys in my neighborhood have gotten sportbikes in the last couple of months, and of course, they have noisy exhausts on them. Even though they keep the revs low on our street, you can hear them going buy or whipping it up the cross streets from within my house and its annoying. And I like the sound. The non-motorcyclist neighbors must hate it/them.

You guys crack me up. I'll make sure I'm thinking about your feelings next time I decide to chop my exhaust. Pussies.

Don't think about us. Think about the cop that is going to write you a thousand dollar ticket. ********.

Your the one who came here and solicited opinions. You don't like what you're hearing so you sling mud. Who's the PU$$!E?

I'm all for criticism, I just didn't think that many of you would make such a big fuss over me unbolting the stock mufflers. It is temporary until I get my 4:1 and reverse cone muffler. I can't stand the sound of stock exhaust. These bikes sound great loud and that's what I wanted. I will most certainly not be changing my setup because it upsets a few of you who think it's too loud. In my opinion the bike is still fairly quiet considering the pipes are pretty small in diameter. To each their own.

You don't "unbolt" the stock mufflers from the header pipe. You take a hack saw and cut them off since they're welded together. You could have sold that set of clean stock mufflers for close to the cost of your new 4-1 exhaust. Good condition stock mufflers are getting harder to find and are prized by those that want to restore their vintage bikes.
