$50 modification thread

Here's another:

New rubbers.

No, not those kinds of rubbers -- I mean all the assorted rubber bits and pieces and bumpers and cushions and grommets scattered throughout your GS. A surprising number of these are still available from Suzuki.

For example, side cover grommets could save you a lost side cover someday, and are maybe a buck fiddy each.

Set aside $50 and go nuts -- seat cushions, center stand cushions, exhaust grommets, instrument mounting cushions, tank mounting cushions, shift lever rubber, etc. Don't forget the various fuel and vacuum hoses, too. Or, just throw a few in every time you order Suzuki parts.

Soon, your bike will feel and sound much newer. Fewer rattles and clunks. Not as much stuff falling off. It's the little things.

I spent about 5 hours doing this very thing yesterday with the 1150, even adding quite a bit of bushings and dampers to different parts of the bike that were rattling and buzzing a bit.

Best time I've spent so far. I was coming really close to buying something newer lately, but this just added new life to a motorcycle that's a quarter-century old.

$50 modification? Saved me damned-near $5000.

for all you posers out there, (like me). cheapest trendy mod available is a window ignition cover. about ?3 for the acrylic cover, couple of quid for the bolts.
a dremmel and a drill and tap is required of course.
then if you wanna be real flash polish up the insides and add a few bright LED's to flash it up at night

cant to that in the UK as it'll fail it's yearly MOT test..... levers need the balls on the end here.... :-/

under 50 bucks

Why does every one sand of the old clear.............. When I took of my covers to do gaskets back in 08, I sprayed my valve cover with paint stripper ' autozone ' and all my aluminum covers ,only takes a couple seconds. It blowes off with hose.Spray alot of water! Cost? How much is 3 hours of sanding worth.Polish with semichrome. I also think semichrome would help the muriatic acid finish.25 years detailing autos, boats Ive learned a few things. also WHY are all these beautifull Bikes have scratched Engine Emblems? thier only $16.00 a side OEM.Well under 50.00 as started 2years ago.

Here ya go, $0 and looks kinda cool for you cafe or chop/bob guys. Drilled five 1/4" holes along the marked center line of the levers, then cut off the ball ends and countersink the holes. Still need to sand em' up a bit for that brushed look and a coat of matte clear from the ol' rattle can.

Ever wonder why there is a ball at the end of the lever? Ever wonder why you plug the end of the handerbars on a race bike? Do you know someone who has been stabbed with those objects and killed? I do.

A dash of metho in the gas tank every now absorbs the water and burns like petrol.

$100 tip. I try not to look at harleys. Oh and i had 12 stiches in my right calf muscle when throttle stuck open on a old Yammy R5 and locked the front wheel trying to stop for a intersection. feet came off and went past the crashed damaged sharpened brake pedal. Rode back up the hill to the the bike shop where everyone was laughing and showed them my new red sandshoe and cause. Funny how lots of people cant handle claret. LOL

Not sure if its available in your neck of the woods. But I use a product called Seafoam. Its one of the things itll do for ya as well.

Had a friend get a handlebar stuck through his leg when his BMW popped into gear unexpectedly in our high school parking lot.

So, Oldvet66, is that a regular Suzuki S fairing with a custom screen on it? How's it work?

That 1/2" round ball still has no problem whatsoever going into your calf, just above your work boots,
and cutting through the boot all the way down to just past your ankle to the ball of your foot at 5 mph crash
on a dirt bike, resulting in 56 stitches after you lose a pint or so of blood on the 17 mile ride
(how else are you going to get there?) back to civilization for a ride in a car, to the hospital where you pass out due to loss of blood.

Just something that I heard... :-\\\

Only a pint? When i was your age.............................

I broke a clutch cable yesterday on the way back from Donut Derilicts. It had started acting stiff, for a couple days, and I intended to service it.

I bought a new cable on the way back at Southland Suzuki in Garden Grove. $31.00 with tax for OEM in stock. Gosh it works nicely, and OEM is superior to what I usually get.

It was fortuitious that an old dealer was fairly close by. I remember my brother getting the trans rebuilt there on his X6 iun the sixties (which had been purchased by one of his friened originally from there)

The new cable really works better than the previous aftermarket one did.

SHARPY? bit of dumb one I suppose, you chuck in a bit of Metholated spirits - ( the purple stuff ) in the fuel tank and you rekon it absorbs moisture and just burns off? hey sounds good to me - can this be true?

Yep. seems to work and been told by smarter people than me. The metho asorbs the water and just gets used like normal petrol. Never had a problem.

Run so form of upper cylinder lube like STP or Redex and get those carb slides protected. I run 29 smoothies and when i pull them apart there is a film on all the parts protecting them. Dont need much

Filling up the tank is less than 10 bucks. Makes my bike go faster and I don't have to push it. I can ride it up hills not just down. And it takes less time to get where I'm going.

Two years later, I saw this one and just laaaaaaughed... :D
