A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

A deal I could not pass up and an iconic bike I have never owned so what the he'll here goes.

I sort of recognize the side cover shape, but it seems more mod than resto.

In any case, more pics. As a former owner of a '73 Z, I can't see too many pics of a Z1A.

I'll deny it if you quote me, but that bike (Z1-Z1B) is as pretty, or maybe prettier than my Suzi.

Definitely far from stock but the rear shock mounts are intact and the rest of the bike is decent. For $500 I didn't expect much.

The front end is worth $500.00 by itself. Nice score.
Take a before pic of the seat before you send it to your upholstery magician.

Looks like a good start. I was in the Mid-Ohio Vintage AMA 2013 show against this tastefully done Kaw 1K resto/mod. We both showed in the modified class. Sweet bike! Note the rear swinger. As usual Steve I look forward to seeing you make this one into something special.

shes a bit rough now but watch out sanctuary here I come. in actuality I will not invest as much in the whole bike than an exhaust like they use but I will get it looking decent

It's got a Bandit swingarm and wheels with a Busa front end on it or it look like them.
Nice find I had a 78 KZ 1000 once.

Nice score.... I know a place you can get plenty of parts for that.... at least for what is still a Z1....

Picked it up yesterday. It was 4 hrs each way. Bike looks decent in person that needs a cosmetic overhaul and electrical work. Brand new pilot powers is a bonus. It has a Boyer ignition that supposedly is non functional so I was thinking dyna s. Any suggestions? Have a set of gixxer flatslides that I rebuilt a while back that may fit the bill and I will lose that super trap soon.

Little progress. Mounted new bars and fabricated new exhaust mount. Re welded rear hoop on frame and surfed ebay for some rearsets.

Check out the brake strut lol

I found a whole seat local in real good shape and picked up a dyna s and a set of 06 gsxr 1000 rearsets. Hope this thing actually runs.

I have been attempting to remove the paint from the tank as it more closely resembles alligator skin than paint. Sanding it gums up the paper in short order and almost resembles rubber. I will be trying a chemical stripper on the tank but am unsure of the best way to remove paint from the plastic pieces. Any suggestions
Waiting on my advancer to show up so I can test run this turd

PPG (and others) make a paint remover specifically for plastic parts. Any auto parts store should have or can get this for you.
