    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Well its starting to get some revival momentum. After life event changes and some patient waiting, its time to get the bikes resto heated up. I am going down to Texas Sunday AM to pick up the bike and bring her back to Oklahoma.

First thing I will need to do is source some old used tires for the rims just so it can be a roller for the time being and not sit on bare rims.

For those unfamiliar and those wondering what happened, here the original thread with the starting point pics and several posts of what I had gotten done before the project was put in moth balls for the time being.

Thanks..gonna be a week or two delay heading to Texas though. Buddys truck is down and he wants me to wait till he clears his plate of a few things till we can hook up.
 
POR 15 ordered up..should be here next week. Tank derusting and paint stripping soon to commence.
 
I sure hope that you end up keeping this one when you are done just to round out the diversity of the herd. :cool:
 
POR 15 dropped off from UPS just a few minutes ago. Looks like its time to buy some Prep and Etch at Home Depot!!! I know what the Holiday days off have in store for me.
 
Tank filed with the sauce. Just 2 hrs in and the hump is looking very good. Now the "guess " as to how long to let the rest soak to be sure its good and clean. Probably till around 4 PM?? That would be a good 7 or 8 hrs.

Hey Chuck,

I use one of those little mechanics (dental) mirrors and a flashlight to look down inside the tank. Most likely 8 hours will be plenty.
 
Its a pretty hot mix i got going. Gallon of the sauce and half a tank of water. Going and giving it a good shake very half hr or so. Got a coat hanger wire straightened out with a loop on the 3nd to run up and down the seams to get them scrubbed out as good as I can.
 
POR 15 is in. Rolled it around and around till it started to thicken and build the layer thicker and thicker. Directions say 96 HRS cure time but I wont be doing anything for a week or so anyway. It should be well cured by the time I hit the tank with stripper and start paint prep work.
 
Well took some time today to get some more done on this project. Took the head, jugs, cam cover, and all 3 rotors to the shop and ran them thru the blast cabinet. Now all that remains is the lower end to blast. Then AT SOME POINT....god willing I get the time.. it will be painting and get some of the engine reassembly under way. Soon as my laptop is up and running again I will post pics.
 
Glad to hear you are making progress. I have been wondering. I'll keep an eye out.
 
Today got the cam chain tensioner shaft rubber dampers and some needs orings ordered. Gonna try to get some more on this project going again since the Nighthawk is wrapped up. Probably be a few weeks till parts are in hand. Once the engine is reassembled and painted then I can start reassembly of the chassis and start making some meaningful gains.

Those darned 650's. After my sidecovers got destroyed in a fire, most clods thought my '73 Z1 was a KZ650. I guess that's why I'm so particular about having the "GS1100E" decals on my current covers. :biggrin:
 
Im gonna start taking the valves out today and do the rest of the head in preperation for the rest of the parts to arrive. Objective is to have everything prepped so when I drop in the cam chain tensioner dampers all I will have to do is set the top end and get it ready for paint. but we all know thats the plan...not necessarily how its gonna go!! Right???

Did you plug all the various oil passages in the head before blasting? The 650 head has some blind oil passages that you can not easily clean out if you were to get media inside so you gotta be careful. PM me if you need more information.

Regarding the cam chain tensioner dampers, are you talking about those small rectangular pieces that are bonded to the pivot shaft for the tensioner shoe? If so, you can reuse the old ones. Just use some case sealer to attach them to the shaft.
