78 Cooley tires??

I saw in the service manual that the front is a 3.25 X 19 tire..the back is a 4.00 X 18 tire. So what brand and model tires are you guys running on your Cooleys? I dont often break 110 but do occasionally. There are some decent twisties around here, so i would think i need a higher speed tire thats good handling in the curves...any suggestions??

A few options include...

Avon Roadriders (although they have cracking issues, but mine are okay so far)

Pirelli Sport Demonds - short lived but great traction

Shinko 230's - V-rated and seem good quality. Also, very cheap.

Bridgestone Spitfires in H rating or Bridgestone BT-45 in V rating.
Traction to the very edge and wear the best of every brand tire that I have tried in over 30 years on these GS's.
12-16,000 out of the fronts and 6-8,000 out of the rears.

If my bike and using standard wheels ill be running the 100/90V19 and 130/80V18 BT45's. But if you are worried about a too large tyre go with 325H19 and 120/80H18 combo. You should be able to get them over there. I have the 140/80V18 on the rear but using a 4.25 rim and its great.

Avon road riders for me, tried sport Demmons well grippy in dry but didnt like them in the wet,just my thoughts.

I used to be a Road Riders fan, at least twice the traction of the Spitfires, better handling than most anything, excellent in rain. They last a very long time for high performance tires. I'm still using them but I won't be buying any more, I don't like how Avon is not stepping up to take care of the cracking issue. Hopefully something as good will come along before my current Road Riders wear out. Maybe Sport Demons, maybe the battle axes will have to do, maybe there will be something newer by then. Might try the Shinko 230 on the 1100G just to see how good they are.

I have some Shinko 230s on order for my 850G"K".

I have seen where many of us have ordered and even installed them, but have not seen any ride reports or longevity reports.
I will be testing them up here in the Adirondaks, so should have a good idea before too long how they will do.

Test them hard, I am a big fan of excessive traction.
Although I was enjoying the heck out of sliding around on my new Xt 600 with it's rock hard twenty year old knobby tires today.

yes..I have been leaning toward the Shinkos as well mostly because of the budget. If anyone else has had them and punished them a bit please post you opinions..
