I'm trying to run my wiring harness, but just discovered I have no suitable photos from before I removed it to help me run it again.

Does anyone out there have good photos of how their harness runs or is someone able to take some? I don't want anyone to pull anything apart or anything like that, just take some photos if you're able.

Unfortunately the Clymer and Haynes don't have suitable details on how to run the harness either, so mainly at the moment I need a bit of a start, then I can probably work it out.

Any help greatly appreciated...

My wife's 86 400 is probably pretty close. If no one posts in the mean time I will take some after work.Doubt much changed but a few details.

How much different can an "E" and an "L" model be under the bodywork? I'll take some pictures of mine and post it up later today.

Actually, good point, there's probably not much difference if any...

I don't believe there's any at all Allen, and in fact the Clymer says the E,L, and S all have the same harness from 80 - 81.

This is really much appreciated guys, cheers!

Hey Pete, sounds like you are going to have to change your signature soon.
Good on ya:dancing:

Haha cheers Flyboy! It will be a happy day indeed when I get to do that! Still at least a couple of months away minimum at the moment...

I'll probably just change my sig to 10 of these... :dancing:

Mate that's perfect thank you so much!

There are some minor differences (my coils are mounted under, yours over), but looks like the main harness routing is appropriate for mine, so that should get me sorted I think.

Thanks again :D

Hmmm ok I gave it a shot tonight, but it seems like mine has more coming from the instruments and 'bar controls than yours does, not sure if I'm seeing things (or not seeing things as the case may be) or if maybe they've condensed the wiring a little with the later models...

I'm just uploading pic's now which may or may not clarify what I mean...

Ok, so, this is what I got to, and it just don't seem to be working. There are subtle frame differences that are making it a little confusing, but I think what I've done wrong is the main harness needs to go under the frame and over the engine, rather than over the frame at that point:

I think these should actually be on the right side of the steering stem rather than the left as I'm pretty sure the clutch and throttle cables should go down the left side, but I think by getting the main harness wrong above, it put me off:

I haven't bothered with the rear half yet as that will be easy to sort once I get the bunches up the front sorted.

Does this look like where I've gone wrong or am I way off? So hard to get good pic's in my garage at night I'm sorry which isn't helping.

I think most of thos connectors go into the headlight. There's alot of them in there. Was a major PITA getting the bucket off the 79.

Yeah I remember that too, however it still looks like many more that need to come from the front back.

I'm going by where the coils connect to the harness when I'm working that out by the way.

If you look in my first pic, you'll see the coil connection where it breaks off from the main harness is right there at the coil on the right side, so I don't think the harness should be any further forward.

This means all those wires from the instruments and controls need to come back through from in front of the forks to under where the tank should be.

Does that make sense?

Pete,

I just noticed your thread. Haven't read it through, but I have a routing diagram from a Suzuki service manual. I can't seem to attach it to photobucket or to a post. PM me your e-mail and I will send it to you, if you like.

Charlie you're a legend! Thanks very much for that, I'll print them out today so I can get them close enough to be able to plug everything in and start testing :D

I hope it is of some use, Cheers. Off to celebrate B-day.:dancing:

Hey happy birthday then Charlie!! Hope you get good stuff you actually want and have a great day :D

And on another note, thanks to your awesome efforts Charlie and SVSooke, my wiring harness is pretty much where it should be and I was able to give it some juice and do a few quick tests tonight :dancing:
