Also, what's a good cleaner to flush out my brake lines? Is carb cleaner ok? It was recommended by a friend of mine but I didn't know if it was a good solution?

I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Returning Visitors
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Well, the build is going well...getting most of it together now, although I did buy the wrong rear tire! Doh!! But here's a little before and after sneak peak before I do the same with the rest of the bike

Hi Cody, I got your email the other day thanks, like you when I get a mo I will respond fully...lol, yes everything on the bike is original...the lines were in good shape, I just know they were sitting for a while...

you may want to consider changing for new brake hoses if they are the original.

Thanks, everything is the original, bar a couple of things that were replaced with original parts...but 95% of the bolts and fasteners are original, I just tumbled them and used simichrome on the non black parts to bring them out. Everything pretty much came out like new...The tumbling provided some amazing results, best part is I just left them going overnight with not much effort...def recommend.

Ill see how they feel when I clean them, if there bad easy enough to replace like you said...
The problem with using old brake lines is you wont see the damage internally. They can look perfect on the outside but the inside liner can be seriously compromised. The only time you'll know there's a problem is when they fail.

No hurry. Enjoying watching your rebuild. It's giving me the itch to get another bike and tear into it. The reason I asked about the brake lines is because Suzuki recommended replacing the OEM brake lines every 15 months with these bikes.
Sounds crazy, but I remember that from my build and went with SS lines. Plus they look really cool. Hope you are having a good day for some wrenching.

if you go back on my posts a little you'll see the what I posted with links. It was an Eastwood tumbler with green media, got rid of all the rust and crap very easily without damage.

I bought a 130/90/16 H rear tire (if that makes sense to anyone?!) when really it should have been a 130/90/17 H!! So my friendly tire shop gave me a buzz and rubbed it in for me…when reading my shop manual, which just happens to have the L model stats as well, I skipped the G and went straight to the L…a little setback until next Tuesday, when I should be able to get it replaced.
Build is going well though, here’s a little sneak of some assembly I did today, minus rear tire of course!

It feels good to get that polishing done doesn't it? Looks good!
Polishing the stator cover was one of the hardest parts of my build. It was pretty rough, but it turned out well.
Those parts are going to look good on the bike!

Got the rear wheel all good, the harness will go in next get all that working and then the motor and fluids...here's a sneak peak!

I wanted to post my brake line experience at some point, this seems like a decent place/time to do it. I went down to a local hydraulic shop recently to get new brake lines made. Mine are original and have a 1981 stamp on it. I talked to the tech who kind of looked at me funny when I told him I wanted prices on new hoses. He humored me and gave me quotes, but then asked why I wanted new ones. After a few minutes talking, I find out this guy has been in the hydraulics business for over 30 years and also rides. He said the brake lines I brought in were in good shape, and said 'it's your call if you want new ones' but that he wouldn't bother. I asked if he'd ever seen hydraulic hoses that were deteriorating on the inside w/o any signs of rot on the outside, and he said no.
Suzuki and many other manufacturers recommend changing the brake lines every 2 years or 4 years or whatever, so I thought I had to. I personally will take a 30-year motorcycle riding hydraulic veteran's word for it any day of the week, but it is ultimately the rider's decision whether or not to perform 'scheduled' maintenance.

Regarding that, I replaced mine with braided lines- one of my fronts was damaged from the speedometer cable rubbing on it for years.
The steel lines gave a much firmer feel at the lever and better braking. Wether a bike needs it or not, I now consider it a performance/safety upgrade.
