A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

82 GS1100G Project

Well she went back together yesterday. I haven't cur & polished the paint yet or put the badges on but I wanted to ride it.....

I took it out for a handful of miles to get some gas. Pretty good. Plenty of "oomph" at least as much as the Skunk (although at first feel the gearing feels a little lower than what I have on the skunk currently).

I have some popping when backing off the throttle, not sure if that is due to a partially blocked carb (No.4 was not firing at low throttle when I was syncing it) or the Delkevic. I have sea foam in this tank & will run it through & see what happens before I do anything else. I didn't check the jet sizes but I'm sure they are stock. I wouldn't expect to have to up them with the pipe only but maybe the needle needs raising a bit....

Other than that... It blew the signals fuse at the gas station. Not sure why, hoping it's just an old fuse. Fine once I replaced it with a new 10amp. I guess I'll see next time I take it out.

Anyone got a solution for this? Engine is off in this pic!

Very clean conservative look.
BTW, with no pipes on the left, both the side and center stand foot steps do stick out more than needed.
Have you considered ways to cut and weld them so they're tight to the frame when up?

It's never bothered me on the skunk so I doubt I'll worry about it on this one. It could be done pretty easily though I would think. :)

She's a beauty! Good job Dan!

What's your plan for it? Ride it I hope.

BTW, Joe found me on GolfWRX and we've been trading some PM's there. He's still in Hawaii and loving it (and playing golf again.)

Nice! Glad he's doing alright! I've used his dad's clubs for a couple of rounds since he left. They're better than mine. I just sold the KLR - it's not been picked up yet, it's going to Texas. Going to ride this one a bit & make some decisions later... I'm thinking of getting a lighter dual sport next :)

Excellent results Dan. It really turned out great. Beautiful bike. Enjoy riding it through some canyons.

Very nice job. I like the fork gaiters, probably in the minority but I'm sorta function over form, unless I'm not.

Wow thats looking great Dan, did you do the paint work?

Jeff

Thanks! Yes, not my first time at doing paint but the first time I've laid out a full set of stripes from tape... :)

It's rattle can but using a 2K clearcoat.

Thanks Larry. I hit the Malibu canyons on Sunday, took the Skunk though. I haven't got enough miles on this one to totally trust it yet & it seems like a bad time to be breaking down far away from home...

I have gaiters on both of mine.... I didn't like them at first but they grew on me! Also both bikes have the cleanest fork legs on them. Ones a forking by frank replacement (skunk) and I believe these are a NOS OE replacement. I figured they deserved to stay in good shape!

My solution to a sticking tach needle is to knock on the gauge before I put my gloves on. LOL

Of course mine sticks when I start it up. One of these days I'll open it up and lube it or something. or just ditch the analog mechanism altogether and convert to a digital gauge.

Great job on the project BTW. :encouragement:

Mine turned out to be an issue with the metal shield from the lights falling off on one side internally & jamming up the needle. Eventually it caused a short. Once I opened them up & glued that in place the gauge was working fine.

It was a PITA to find! :)

Thanks PJ! :)

Great job mate, I am doing a 83 GS1100GK so I am interested in any info you can give me on the front brake upgrade you did as the GK is a battleship to stop.
Cheers Carl.

Hi Salty, thanks for the reply, I am a bit of a bunyip with forums, how do I get to the link you mention and how much are the brackets you have mate, cheers for ant help champion.
Carl
