DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Whats the best way to remove a locking gas cap on a Katana 1100 tank with no key ?

I was told all suzuki tanks just use the very end of the key for the cap. I take that to mean most any suzuki key will work. I does work on my 2 1100e tanks
Good luck

go to a good locksmith and have a key cut to the code off the barrell

What do you mean by the code off the barrel ?

All you have to do is remove the gas cap from the tank and look inside of the lock. The key fits inside what is called a barrel. Yoiu can then get a key mad and after putting the cap back onto the tank, your key will be able to get the cap off.

See isn't that easy?

Here is an even more helpful suggestion, remove the tank and cut a larger hole into the bottom of the tank so you can see the bottom of the lock and barrel code.

What do you mean by the code off the barrel ?

the code is a 3 digit number stamped on the flat face beside the keyhole of the barrell,if you know the model and year the locksmith will look up the blank type required then cuts it to the pattern associated with the 3 digit code.if you can take the tank and cap to double check the blank fits before it is cut ,all the better.

The gas cap is locked on the tank or was. There were no numbers on the cap by the key & there is no helmet lock on the frame. I finally just busted the plastic piece that screws into the tank with some giant channel locks. Thank you for the help

I had to laugh so hard at " remove the gas cap and read the code" sometimes the point of the question is missed completely. The helmet lock is good idea unless you need to take seat off to get at it and you have no key.If you have friends with GS or katanas try using their key. My 84 kat and 85 GS had same key originally. Good luck.

Its beyond that now, I need a new cap and a key. I appreciate all the help but I kind of laughed at that one too. If I could remove the cap that's locked on how am I going to remove the cap and look at the numbers

I purchased a replacement tank off of ebay. I am taking it apart to get the paint touched up before putting it on my bike. I need to remove the gas cap but I do not have the key. I am about to try and drill out the lock cylinder until I can unlock it with a standard screwdriver or something. Then i want an experienced and affordable locksmith then i googled and contact Lakezurich locksmith, they are awesome really they resolve my problem in a very simple manner

So, you would have no connection with Robert Sain, locksmith of Lake Zurich, then?
Not surprised they solved your problem if it's your own business, after all.

That just has to be a bizarre coincidence.......

But if it isn't it's just wrong in so many ways.
