I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

A T.V. Ad Finally Got To Me

The final words of the ad are " Odds of getting shingles ? One in three " ..... That ad has been bugging me for a while. Passing the drug store today I said " puck it " and went in and got the shot ..... The only shot in Canada I've actually had to pay for but I don't have to quickly change the channel when I see that ad anymore .....

Got my two shingles shots a year ago. All of my vaccinations (and I've had a LOT over the past few years, including 7 Covid) have cost me zero. Surprised to hear you had to pay. Mind if I ask how much?

Each time, they give me a receipt that shows a "retail price" of $180 - $250, depending on the vax. I'm a big war documentary buff, and I always knew I'd want the shingles shot since learning admiral 'Bull' Halsey was indisposed with shingles for a few days in the middle of a big WWII Pacific battle. Ouch! :mask:

No I don't mind . $209 loonies for each shot ......

Shingles is a two shot sequence. Don't skip the second...

Yeah ..... They told me two to six months .... I'll go back in two ..... I also scheduled a reminder phone call with my pharmacist ......

Some of the ads here say "... you may already have the virus(?) in you......." (a reference to having had what is called chicken pox, I understand)
I don't know weither to call that good advertising or if to call it a scare tatict.

ANyway, I understand this "new" vax, which is a double dose, is more effective and covers wider range of strains than, say, 5-8 years ago. SO that is why my doctor recomended me getting this "new" one in addition to what I had maybe 10-12 years ago.
And after what I saw my uncle suffered with shingles for months , I was quite agreeable with the doctors suggestion.

One in 3 will get Shingles? Not really doubting their claims as I have no way of knowing, but for sure there's nowhere near a third of the folks I know and have known had nor got the shingles. Can anybody here say yes, at least a third of my acquaintances have or have had shingles??? It seems odd just how rarely I hear it mentioned by anybody except their TV commercials.

Everybody doesn't get it at the same time. 1 of 3 in their lifetime.
I know people who've had it. There is one or two on this forum.

Wife had it at about age 23 or so. Presented sort of like welts above her hip around the back the back. But no real illness that she or I recall. I just asked her and she thinks maybe there was some body aches but must not have been too bad. But we know some folks who got it later in life and it’s worse the older you get. So we both got the 2-shot vax last year. I’m pretty sure it was free at CVS, IIRC.

As for the 1 in 3, I’ll compare it to what I didn’t know about inguinal hernias until I had one last year. After doing some research, I came across a stat that 1 in 4 men have had, has, or will suffer some form of hernia. I personally didn’t know anyone. When I started asking other men around work, I found that several currently had one, or had had one repaired, or knew a close family member or friend that did. Guys just don’t talk about it. Same likely true with most illnesses. You don’t know, because nobody told you, and you didn’t ask.

Of course everybody won't get i at the same time. I do realize if someone had it several yrs ago, it may never come up when I'm around. But if a third of folks I've known, living and done passed on, had ever had it, it seems I'd have heard more about their infections just in conversation. Just sitting here thinking there's been only 4 I can remember that said they'd had it. One had it very bad for over a year, bad enough he couldn't work, wound up retiring before he got over it. Finally did get over it and now back to normal. Gosh it was rough on him. Others I knew weren't too bad.
