Airbox seating trouble

I am having a pain of a time trying to get my airbox to mate up with my carbs. Is there any good solution to this?

I can get the ends (carbs 1 and 4) to play nicely, but 2 and 3 end up with huuuuge gaps which are no doubt contributing to my air leaks (colortune confirmed )

Right now I'm using some screw clamps to try and hold things together, but they do not appear to be working so well

Are the boots on your airbox soft and pliable?

my boots don't let the airbox mount up correctly. make sure the marks on the boots line up with the marks on the airbox. that should get the spacing closer.

after i get the boots onto the carbs, the mounting bracket on top of the box won't reach up to the frame. i have chunks of styrofoam supporting the box on the backside against the frame. this is temporary until i get new boots. you may be needing boots. they should be soft and pliable

they seem pretty reasonable. guess i'll have to take things off when i get a chance next and find out!

Hi,

I used all new boots, new fasteners and O-rings from Robert Barr, and new OEM clamps when I refurbished my intake system. It sure made the job easy. But I did have to use a little "persuasion" to get the airbox securely mounted.

I suggest attaching the airbox to the carbs before inserting the carbs into the intake pipe boots. Get the rear attached with the band clamps tight, and then shove the carbs into the boots.

i always found it easier to get the carbs into the intake boots first. guess i'll try the other way around and see what happens!

It's easy to get the carbs to fit into the intake pipe boots, it's the airbox boots that don't like to mate up, maybe because they tend to shrink with age.
