    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I've just spent 2 days starting to remove a fuel tank liner on one of my 1000s and at the same time I've been fighting aftermarket junk needle and seats and a decent fuel cock for my other 1000 (good grief). Out of my 6 spare petcocks none of them shutoff correctly. I save original stuff for the quality and have one K & L kit and it doesn't do the deed either. I would order a Mikuni diaphraghm if I could but apparently that's a no, go. Someone must have solved this with an aftermarket diaphraghm of some sort? Thanks in advance for any insight. I think a few of my diaphraghms may work with a new O-ring however the factory O-rings seem to have a profile to them other than just being a round O-ring.
 
Wait, the diaphraghm has nothing to do with sealing fuel when eng. is off. It opens the valve when vacuum is put to it. The spring, "O" ring & slot for "O" ring & seat "O" ring seals against is what shuts off the fuel.... Or am I missing something?
 
Yeah the o ring is riding on the diaghrahm. Dang things pull vacuum, I flip the tank off it's side upright and fuel flows out. Has to be the O-rings not sealing, tried several different housings, inspected them all carefully. Just need some new parts that aren't made of chinesium. I ordered a couple of inline fuel shutoffs today to take care of the two bikes temporarily but I hate fixes like that.
 
As simple as these things are, not much to keep them from working. If seat is clean (polished), groove for "O" ring clean, "O" ring good, seems the only thing left is the spring. It's over 40 yrs. old and probably needs stretched back a little, stretch it a little and see what happens... Is there anything else that can cause them to leak? I've read where lots of folks have trouble rebuilding them but I've rebuilt several and never had a problem.
 
I am going to stretch the spring, I also think I am going to try soaking one of the original O-rings in wintergreen. Yes I've had probably a dozen apart and never had an issue until now.
The last one I fiddled with does seal but when I walk carrying the tank fuel will slosh out, so it is sealing but when you move with it the fuel sloshing has enough force to move the diaphraghm a bit and unseat the O-ring (something I've probably done 200 times in the last few years without that happening). So I figure the diaphraghm or spring is the weak point on that one.
Glad I've got other bikes to ride and that's just what I'm going to do this afternoon!
 
Hope that works... It always amazed me how simple these things are and how good and long they work... Heck, so simple I could have invented it.
