Anyone Get A Cortizone Injection ?

Aw No, that's 2 wks... Surely your doc has another doc seeing his patients while he's away. Go get it from him then tell your doc when he returns. It's an injection, not brain surgery.... Surely come up with something.

Oh peachy ! ..... My doctor is away until Dec.4 ..... Receptionist told me a nurse or other doctor can do it after she contacts my doctor for clarification ,,,,,, Also mentioned the anaesthetic thing to discuss with my doctor .....

Youd do well to have a physiotherapist give you a once over. I injured my rotator cuff by sanding a guitar clean of its polyurethane finish. Never sand polyurethane its a fools game.
The pain is incredible in a shoulder its a complex mechanism that can tighten up upon itself. Pain to the point of tears, immobility and potentially shattering my lifelong dream of flying under my own power.

My physiotherapist has me doing a battery of easy light movements that loosen the shoulders and neck.
do this after the cortisone kicks in fully and works its magic. Cause when they say relax and breathe you cant when in sever pain.

I actually was sure it must be an injury due to the amount of intense pain I was experiencing. As you describe " to the point of tears " ....... But x-rays revealed it was arthritis ..... Having said that my doctor did send me a bunch of exercises to do .... Bur the first thing on the agenda is getting this damn shot.......

Got up at six thirty am this morning . The worst time of day for pain. After initial scream of pain things have settled down faster than usual . Usually takes several hours of movement before the pain subsides a bit to tolerable levels ..... Still in a lot of pain but I think it is a bit better today .....Didn't hear back from the receptionist yesterday so I guess I'll call again Monday . I'll be a little clearer and request the doctor that is covering for mine. I would really like to see that x-ray report ......

Do you give heating pad or anything like that a yry. to see if it gives ya any comfort? Don't know about ice.

Note to self ..... Close eyes before the doctor pulls out the needle ......

I would close my eyes before receiving cortisone shots on my right knee...I had 2-3 treatments before I took a different approach.

The right knee was more bone-on-bone than the left.

It was temporary relief until my ortho Doc recommended Total Knee Replacement (TKR) at the tender age of 51.

I had very little medial meniscus remaining where the joint meets...and meniscus does not grow back...hence the TKR.

See how long the pain is relieved before deciding how long before taking further action.

I've had intense pain in my right shoulder for several weeks now. I just finished the process of diagnosis through x-rays. The doctor says I have mild osteo-arthritis . If this is what mild is like I'd hate to see what the non-mild version is like. Because this is like a raw nerve being touched . It is worse overnight and gets a little lesser during the day as I move around . The doctor had mentioned a cortizone shot so that is what I requested. After which I got the rundown .

Can cause bleeding in the muscle

Doesn't always work

May worsen the situation before it gets better

He kind of put the fear of Gawd in me. But the pain is so bad I'm going to go through with it. The drug store is delivering my dose to me tomorrow morning after which I will book an appointment with my doctor for him to give me the injection.....

Just looking for some reassurance from other members that I am doing the right thing ..... So tell me your experience if you have any to share ?......

I ve been getting these injections in both knees. Huge help mitigating blinding pain. Virtually painless procedure. I’m now onto gel injections. The knees are shot. Good luck.

Just curious as to the cost of the gel injections in your area.
I have to pay $40.00 for the cortisone and $600 for the gel injection/per knee.

I ended up having to get a cortisone injection about 10 years back due to a frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis). I ended up with a concussion because of it. :nonchalance:

Right after the injection, as I was putting my shirt back on, I started feeling this strange sensation, kind of like my body was beginning to overheat. Well, as I get back to the front office to pay the bill, it got really bad and I was just asking the receptionist if this was normal..................next thing I know, I wake up on a bed in an exam room, with two doctors and a nurse hovering around me, trying to get me to drink some water and asking me all kinds of questions. I had no idea who the hell I was, if I was even married (they had asked for my wife's phone number so that they could call her), or what had happened. It took about 15 minutes or so before that knowledge started coming back to me. It was like a shaken snowglobe, and my memories were the floating flakes within it, slowly settling to the base over time.

Doc said I had some kind of reaction to the cortisone (not very common) that caused my blood vessels to constrict leading to me passing out. The receptionist said I just passed out while standing there as I was asking her the question, and fell straight over backwards with my head smacking the tiled floor.

Had somewhat of a headache and felt nauseous for about a week (although no pain the the shoulder :)). After that, some bi-weekly physical therapy to increase the range of motion of my shoulder and all was OK. Until about 3 yrs later when it came back, but not quite as bad. Didn't go to the doctor that time, and it went away by itself after a few weeks.

No more cortisone shots for me.

I don’t have any out of pocket for the gel shots this year. Met my deductible. If I didn’t meet the deductible I’d have to pay 138 dollars for two shots x 3 sessions. Would have been 414 dollars. The doc also charges for the visit. Cost of that is unknown to me.

Had it injected in one knee years ago. It burned a little the first few days. After that it was fine. No major issues but it wasn't the panacea I had hoped for.

I'm still humming and hawing about this . Overnight when I get up to pee and went I get up in the morning the pain is excruciating . An hour after wakeup when I'm moving around the pain is lessened considerably . The cortizone prescription is on my coffee table ready to go. Right now I am leaning toward waiting for my doctor to get back on Dec. 4th ..... { However if things become unbearable I will use whoever is covering for him } . I really want to see that x-ray report ......

Do nurse practitioners do this in BC?

I had the surgery in Mar/Apr of 2018 before my 52nd Bday in June. The cortisone wasn't helping me much.

Cap--sorry you aren't able to get any info until December. All the best for you moving forward.

Hey Captain, I bet if you could convince Vmass to put down your Voo-Doo Doll you'd have instant reilf!!!
Just kidding. I kind of know how you feel. When I had Gout in my wrist, it was very painful.
Do the Cortisone, stay away from Prednisone! That stuff is poison!

I took a treatment of prednisone, high dosage also...very bad experience, It dam near drive me over the edge....I'm sure if I didn't have certain issues it might not have been that bad.
I experienced every side effect times ten, it also messed up the vision in one eye and the docs didnt know if it would be permanent...luckily after a six month things returned to normal.

Not even gonna try to say how horrible it was, but I met someone that took it and didn't like it but didn't have the experience I did.

Because of the stories about alternative injections I had a look in the bag at the prescription I got , It says " Triamcinolone Acetonide " ..... Guess I'll have to google that to see what it is ...... { Yanking Vmass's chain is a hobby . So I'd miss his voodoo doll } .......
