anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Changed the oil, did a few cosmetic things and took her out for a ride. I just love riding this bike, so smooth, so comfortable. It was a beautiful day in Victoria today.

High wind and blowing dust warnings have killed any rides for this weekend. Winds in excess of 45 mph can be expected with gusts up to 60 mph (80-90 mph in mountain passes). Blowing bust will limit visibility to less then 1/2 mile. Yup fun day for sure.

Thanks for the update this morning Bill. I was looking forward to testing out the fork brace. I can still try and get out but during my drive to Holloman AFB, I felt how strong the winds were in my 4K/lb SUV. Better to stay in today.

I was so intent on riding even though southern NM has a "Wind Advisory" in effect. Talk about getting pushed around by the wind!

There is nothing to block the wind out here...take a look at these pics.

This is on Charlie Lee Memorial Relief Route on 1st Street.

I made it a point to capture that old truck in the background.

And this is on S. Scenic Route:

It's a beautiful day but not fun for riding on the highways and open roads.

Celebrating the GKs first day out this year.
Rode to breakfast (38 degF)
Then went for an hour ride (42 degF)

out and back into town for a friends funeral.
That funeral was something of a celebration also.

.

After funeral lunch, (45 degF) took long way home, swung by the beach just to see.
Went up to this place with a higher overlook view.

Lot nicer than just 6 weeks ago.

After firing up the beast for the first time last night, it was time to take it out for a 50+ mile break-in run. About 18.5 miles out, the speedo cable broke. (Oh well) The front end likes to lift without warning and I kept thinking that it runs just as good as one of my 1100E 4-valve bikes. That is until I got back home and hopped on an 1100 to compare. This thing makes the 1100E feel like an 850 compared to this demon! Perfect! As I rigged a fuel tank to work just for this ride and slapped on some nasty GK side covers and I didn't even instal a tail piece, she is camera shy until I get the petcock relocated on the stock 1100G tank.
A nice windy 40-45 degrees to break-in an air-cooled engine. ;) Noisy vid but here it is...

That's Great Redman. I love the feeling of riding solo and going about at my own pace. The peace and serenity you needed today was very important. I'm glad you got out.

Why is she being shy? You should reveal a little more of her...or is there a reason you are reluctant?:-k

The winds here in southern NM are rediculous. They'll easily put a tractor-trailer on its side and toss a motorcycle like a toy.

Let's see more pics of your bike...come on, man! :-\\\

7:30 pm MDT dang winds are really getting with it now, just had a 60+ mph gust. Scared my cat so bad she came in running looking for me lol.

I just got back from dinner in Tularosa...visibility isn't too bad but the wind sucks!

Let's see what tomorrow brings....

Went for a little ride today on the 250. :)

Had to try out the UClear helmet intercom system. (The GS is down for some wideband installation work.)

Quick trip

Quick trip

I took a quick blip down to my mates Hot Rod shop to pick up a spacer for the new muffler. Nice cool day after a night of rain, and every man and his cattle dog was out on his/her bike, including a nice sample of a BSA Spitfire..
I asked for a aluminium one, but ending up with a stainless steel one, no complaining.

Rode the modified skunk around town for awhile.

120 miles today before the rains come this week. Sure felt nice to get out and about.

I hope to get the badges back on in the next couple of weeks.

I just noticed that's the saddle bag clip at the back of the side cover and not a chip; scared myself for a second.

First real ride of the year for me today.
A couple glitches but it still felt great to be out bombing around the back country.
The roads sure did take a beating from this long, loud winter.
