A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

A friend closed his motorcycle repair shop today after 17 years in business. It was a co-op business....it was successful and he wants to travel.
On the weekend they had a party and this was a video they did...if you look closely at around 33 seconds you will catch me sitting on a Harley...lol...my buddy's Pan America

Good that your friend got to do what he wants but too bad he had to close the shop.
I like the idea of newbie mechanics having a place to get some hands-on "guidance".
A couple years ago a small co-op shop opened near me but it turned into a hangout instead of fix-it and the neighbours started complaining about noise and numbers.

Utility Trailer Info

Utility Trailer Info

I have a very tentative plan for Glen and I to come to this rally. A few things have to happen. Glen and I both agreed that the distance is not something we want to do on our GSes. It?s a 10 hour drive for me, and Glen is a few hours east of me. We talked about Glen riding his bike to my place, and loading mine and his on a trailer. Our Subaru has a towing capacity of 1500 lbs. I could probably push that a little. Our bikes combined probably weigh 1000 lbs.+.

hurdles:

I don?t own a trailer yet, so need to find one that?s very light, and that can fit 2 bikes. Have to buy the trailer. I also will want the trailer to haul kayaks on a rack when not hauling bikes, also use as a utility trailer for various things when it?s not hauling fun stuff. This may be an impossible dream, I haven?t done any serious shopping for such a trailer.

I've been looking at Utility Trailers for giggles and grins...since we have home projects that have priority, I have a wish list going.

Anyway, my son-in-laws have recently went on a camping trip to Trap Pond and did some canoeing (rented) and we happen to have a discussion about it...so...off I did my google searching.

I am interested in the 5' X 8' utility trailer that is $929 at Lowe's to replace the Harbor Freight collapsible that I bought for less than $300 in 2013.

What you're looking for is what I'm guessing to be a 5' X 10' to haul both your bikes which ups the price to $1248.

And you mentioned kayak hauling which requires a top-tier addition:

https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/...EyFutXS9_FPD4YebBJEaAkBOEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Ed's projected expense: $929 + $287.99 = $1216.99
Rich's suggested expense: $1248 + $287.99 = $1535.99

My wife would say to save for it...I would put the Trailer on my Lowe's card and pay it off in two months and buy the top-tier with my credit card and pay it off when the bill arrived.

Of course, this is just a suggested purchase plus I've done some of the research to get you ideas about how much you want to budget for. I prefer new as opposed to searching for used in this instance. $1200 for me is a good investment to do outdoor activities at this stage in my life.

Yesterday was the perfect weather for an extended mountain ride. Found a vista I hadn’t been to before.

I bought a 5x8 ft utility trailer(and I built side walls) in 2004, when I had 850G.
THen I went to pick up the GK when I got it......
Opps..... didnt fit.
At least not with the tail trunk on.
Took the trunk off, and the the rack Just-Just-barley fit, was rubbing on tail gate.

Keep that in mind if thinking might ever get bigger bike.

Thanks Redman!

I’ll take that into consideration. I would probably want the capability to stagger two bikes that aren’t as big as GKs.

Got out for a sunrize ride this morning, well, shortly after sunrize.
50degF this morning.. . . .

Stopped at this boat ramp on the river thinking would be sunrize color over the water, but that was not over the water.

I bought a used Kia Soul, which I've been enjoying immensely, but every time I get on the Harley, I fall deeper in love with it. The Feuling Reaper cams I installed a while back make what was already a stout motor come alive. In the next year, I'll have the heads off for porting, but if the dyno charts I'm seeing from other folks with similar mods to their 1200 Sportsters are accurate, the bike is already making over 90 hp and over 80 lb ft of torque. It is simply a wonderful engine.

I rode to work yesterday and like always, got there with a huge grin on my face.

Rainy this morning, but cleared up some about noon.
Headed out for a ride. Roads not dry yet.

Saw this, and thought, was some "fall color".

Stopped for a quick lunch at a sandwich shop.

Was out for about 3 1/2 hours. Good.
Bike got a bit grimey.

Washed up my BMW today and then took my old Suk out for an after dinner spin in my hood. Nothing like a cool night on an inline four. :)

You're posting a lot of pics with the Beamer lately. Is the GK in the shop?

They addded a new mural to the side of a coffee shop around the corner. I enjoyed standing in front of it seeing all the little details.

I've got a pic that I would like to share with you all. Now that I am back home and can easily get to my pics on Flikr. This is a billboard for a famous spot in the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.

I went to the Missouri Ozarks last Tuesday and stayed until Sunday then went to the northern tier of Arkansas for some more Ozark riding.

Beautiful crooked roads in both of those places by the way.

Someday someone should organize a rally in Northern Arkansas.

Anyway here is the picture I captured. I hope no one is offended by it.
