anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Did a 240km ride yesterday…I wash my bikes after afterwards. Easy. Why is your water shut off in Vancouver?

Because the pipes freeze and burst... has happened to multiple houses on our street. So we shut off our outdoor spigots when it gets cold overnight. Shutoff is down in the crawlspace... not an easy thing to turn on and off. I think washing each time is the way to go!

Swung by an overlook to see how far out Lake Michigan froze.

Rode out to the Indiana shores of Lake Michigan a couple of times recently as well - beautiful, especially in the winter!

So, what do you winter riders do with the salt on the road?
….
.. so what are you guys doing to preserve your bikes?
observe for salt getting washed iff pavement, typically rain. In my case, last week, I had noticed that most of the snow had been when was single digit temps and low teens (degF) so little salt was used, and was still snow pack on roadway when had thaw so lots of snowmelt water…. ….. AND take out the ol’ Honda Shadow500 that is mix matched parts and already discolored by coolant and battery acid.

(The GK and RT will stay in garage till spring good rain to better wash roads.)

Welcome.
Nice pic of nice bike.
Yah, overlooking Lake Mich.

Let me know if sometime you might ride another 80 miles north.

NW Indiania, you say. Are other long time GSR members in NW Indiana (don’t post much).

Hey, keep a look out for posting of GSR rally in Bedford IN , in June, is called Brown County (cuz used to be in Nashville).

Jebus....it has to get pretty cold for that to happen.....in 20 winters in Victoria I have never shut the water off....weird

Might be fun to venture further north as the days get longer and the weather starts to warm - every day's getting longer now! I'll be sure to reach out if the opportunity arises.

I'm not sure if there are others in my area: admittedly I've stayed mostly on the technical side of the forum as I've gotten by bike up to mechanical snuff. Something worth looking into...

Definitely would be interested in doing the Brown County Rally this year - seems to be a nexus of GSR'ers in Indiana. Would be a first for me, and probably the longest ride I'll have had yet.

Yah, often mid-upper 20s low 30s of GSR's at the BC ralley. From IN, KY, OH, MO, MI, NE and sometimes WI, FL, NY, and recently VA, VT, NM.
Keep a look out in the Meetingplace section. (My observatikon Is it is most usally weekend after fathers day or weekend after that if avoids 4th july week).

Ahem. :-\\\

Recent post from Brian set the dates for the 2025 BC (Brown County, not British Columbia) Rally is June 19-22, yes, again, weekend after Father’s Day.

First ride of 2025...Just a normal loop for me. Up to Norris dam, back by local roads to a lunch, and home. about 90 miles...

Norris dam

And a random road on the way home...

Not today, but yesterday as the temps were hovering around 70, I got in 124 miles of curvaceous Ozark roads.
Some of you, (GBW) might recognize one of these photos as it is a popular stopping point.
Had things to do today, so could not ride. Temperature was a record tying 79 degrees here in Harrison.

I didn't get a pic but it had rained here and washed away the road salt. It hit a high of 62 this afternoon but I had some dental work done and I needed to take a painkiller and take it easy. I still did a neighborhood lap on the GS1100E. It was awesome.

Had the GS out this evening for about an hour. First ride of the season. Started right up and ran strong. Tach needle didn’t budge. Wonder what could have happened during its winter nap. Oh well, I’ll dig into it later. spring is coming, all!:triumphant:

Hopefully tach cable, cheap and easy. Anything else less cheap and less easy...Hope it just came loose.

No snow at all? Awesome.
I’m sure there’s snow up top where I like to ride most. I’ll wait a bit. When I had the Tiger out 2 Saturday’s ago, I didn’t get very far on the forest roads. It’s warming up quite a bit this week, though. Won’t be long.

I’ll let you know.

Got in a nice 225 mile ride today in the Ozarks, especially 26 glorious miles on the Push Mountain road. It's a spectacular road that is a favorite of sport riders nationwide--so the claim is. IDK, maybe it's true, maybe not. 72 degrees today so yeah, just had to do it.

Yes, it was on the BMW. Not as much fun as it would have been on the Suzuki, but the Suzuki is down at the moment awaiting some much needed maintenance.
