    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Anyone seen a nut like this before?

In the middle of doing a 530 conversion on my '82 1000 kat and got stuck at trying to undo the nut on the front sprocket. I've tried my impact wrench and applying a 4ft wrecking bar to the 32mm socket at which point I started to lift the machine from it's stand and it still didn't let go.

Looking at the nut before I started, it looked like there may be some kind of retention clip visible between the internal face of the nut and output shaft. If you look closely you'll see kind of a slot either side of the shaft in what looks to me like a spring clip kind of deal. I've never seen a nut like this before, has anyone else?

Not sure whether to keep working at it or whether there's some "trick" to this kind of nut.

Any body seen anything like this before?

No retention clip...just the bendable locking washer, which it looks like you unbended...

The impact should do it, always worked for me..
 
With the picture, I can tell you that it is in fact a form of lock-nut.
I would use it and the folding washer to retain the sprocket.

Agree with Eric, looks like the stock locknut.

It's off :)

Took a ton of hammering with my impact gun but it let go in the end.

Thanks for the confirmation the nut was nothing special. Had visions of going too hard and nadging up the output shaft or something else equally undesirable.

Onward with the conversion..... hooray! Unlikely to be finished today now like I was hoping though :cry:

Looks just like one I was describing out in the garage.

I suspect you could use a bigger impact gun. ;)
