    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • This forum is for placing reviews for parts, accessories, gear and service as it relates to your GS motorcycle. The key here is "GS Related". There is a bit of latitude here but we don't want to see a review on Maytag washers just because that's what you use to clean your riding jacket in.

    Keep your review as factual as possible and please refrain from personal attacks. Posted articles will be reviewed by the Editors and may be removed at their discretion.

    So let's make this a useful addition to the forum! A special pat on the back goes to Hap Call for coming up with this great idea.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Anyone use EMGO pod filters?

I bought a set of EMGO pod filters from Z1 and sent them back. They looked like all they would filter would be large particles, they are not oiled like the K&N filters. I now have a set of UNI pod filters which I believe do a better job of filtering than K&N although I have no proof of that but the UNIs are less expensive and from my experience don't last as long as the K&Ns.

I purchased a set of those Emgo conical pod filters for my GS1000 back in 2004 to replace my 1980's vintage round K&N air filters since the rubber manifold on on the K&N became hard as rock. I thought the Emgo swap would be transparent. I oiled the Emgo's lightly and found my GS couldn't rev past 4000 RPM because the filter media wouldn't flow air with oil on them. My GS is lightly modified but this was ridiculous; the plugs were black. What I still don't know is whether Emgo recommends oiling their pod filters or not?

So now anytime I read a Thread stating that the owner has Pod Filters and describes a symtom like, "The bike won't rev past 4000-5000 RPM" I ask whether the Pods are K&N's or aftermarket based on my awful experience. Lesson learned. I sold the Emgo's on Ebay (sorry guy) and purchased the current K&N pod RC2454?.
 
i ran emgos on my 750 without any problems........
and i bought them for my 1000

i dont foresee any issues with them.
 
The emgo filters are a paper element and should never be oiled. They are a disposable filter - usually good for a couple of seasons before needing to be replaced.

The K&N filters are about the best available these days. The Uni filters work for a while, but you have to be very careful about exposing them to chemical cleaners. When old they can deteriorate and get crispy.

All pod style filters are susceptible to rain - the K&N's seem least impacted, but both the UNI and Emgo filters struggle to flow air when exposed to heavy rain.
 
Used EMGO pods on my GS450 (BS34 carbs), and found that they did not flow more than the stock airbox, possibly even less.
Do not buy these as a performance upgrade.

Got 'em on my '76 750 and I think they work great. I have ridden in pouring rain, dry hot weather etc and they work beautifully.
I had a workshop put the bike on a dyno when I installed them (to work out correct jet size) and I think that made all the difference.
 
Not much airflow, not much filtration, don't last very long.
Other than that, they are almost as good as a stock airbox.

K&N's don't filter all that well, that's why they flow so much air. The EMGO's should filter better if they are more restrictive.

Considering how few people rejet when they install pods, the EMGO's are probably the way to go.:oops:
 
I think the opposite. I think the Emgo pods let more air through. Mine have a very open weave material in them.

Properly oiled K&N should filter better than paper in theory & according to their sales literature but who really knows.... You can get stats to say almost anything if you try hard enough!

i've used emgo pods on a kz400.. worked great. don't look to bad, and very, very cost effective. i got'em for about 7 dollars each.

I ran the Emgo filters on my old 550 without issues. Do not oil the filter, they are not like K&N's.
