If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Are these carbs worth looking at to buy?

I may post some pics after I get things dusted off. The pods were hard as a rock. This stuff has been sitting a long time. He said he drained the carbs before storage, still need cleaned but it's good regardless.
I guess the classic full teardown and dip and rebuild are in order. I will strip the paint and put forth the effort to get them in a sonic tank.
Nothing I'm going to get on right away. I have to finish my 850 project up first.

You need to start thinking about a HUGE buying spree. Then resell things here or Ebay and make some money. Sounds like hes giving things away at pennies on the dollar.

Haha I will sell things on e bay for top dollar , or as much as i can get as i have in the past, but I feel like a di*k trying to make money on people here. Especially when I bragged on the good deal I got . Haha
Here I tend to just do "free for shipping cost" if I see someone needing something I have and don't want.

Well I see it like this..YOU got a deal on carbs..which coincidentally may lead to a stash of good vintage parts. Now some days its your turn and some days its someone elses turn. That doesnt make you a crook for selling here for a reasonable price. Your taking a risk b y buying, you gotta sort it and find out what it goes to, you have to package and run it out to be shipped..etc etc. Bet your azzz if theres a set of Cooley mirrors in there they will sell for BIG BIG bucks and they should be offered up her for what they would bring on Ebay!!!

Dont feel bad for being a wise business man.

Great find! always nice when a bit of a hunt pays off, a bit addictive really. Glad you're keeping in touch with him about the other stuff, better someone with interest gets it and uses or circulates it than rusting away in an attic only to hit the trash at some point. Would have been great if he had had a new tank for your 850 ;)

The tank I got with it is a (almost positive) 79 750E.
Its that dark blue Sapphire like color.
Has 2 mall small dings and a bigger dent I was able to pull out almost all the way so far.
After rubbing compound it will be pretty nice.
Can't wait to work on this carb set.

Dangit, some people have all the luck!!!!

Adam, if you are not certain if you are going to use those, I would pay you well over double your investment for those carbs alone, to fit on my GS750-920cc that is currently carb-less since some low-life scum @$$###$#&$(*&#$(!!!!!! stole my VM29 smoothbores and K&N RC2222's off of my bike this past October as it sat in the back of my truck for a few days due to a wrist injury and no help to unload.... Darnit!

FYI:
I also want to point out that the only sure fire way to identify the VM29 smoothbores is to look at the little square casting on the sides just above the fuel bowl gasket, as the very first models of Kawasaki spec VM29 smoothbores came with standard looking float bowls with standard drain configurations, NOT the big quick change main jet hex plug as all the other later VM29 smoothbores have. If you see the big hex plug, you know they are VM29 smoothbores, but even without that, looking at the sides for the little square casting will identify the earliest of the VM29 smoothies.

The carbs operate freely and feel pretty smooth. The exterior is painted black.
Not sure what I'm doing with them yet.
Overall a really good buy for all I got.

Thank you guys for your responses. It made the deal.
If your not sure what your going to do with them, I'll drop a hint, I will give you $250+shipping for them as is. PM me if your interested. They will NOT be re-sold. They will go into a 78 GS1000 that will be turned into a GS1000s WITH REAL MIRRORS ( lol )

(In your best auctioneers voice)
I have 2, gimme 225 gimme 250.
250 now
250 250 250, do I hear 3, 3, 3 hundred
3 to the man in the black hat, now 4 , can I get 4....lmao

Damn you guys trying to get your hands on my new goodies .....and the body is still warm! Haha

Thanks for the interest, I'm just gonna sit on them for a minute and get an o ring kit and go through them all the way. Premium clean , polish and assembly. That's the plan at least.

GS addict vultures!
Sheesh.
Lmao (says the guy who just bought more parts he doesn't need) he he he

Well if you're not selling them, check with me before you order any parts, I had a bunch of parts to rebuild them including a very crucial new set of jet block paper gaskets.
Luckily I just bolted them on to try out before I rebuilt them, it would've hurt even worse if I got them all rebuilt and fine tuned and then some low life stole them...

You guys are pretty funny...pretty sure Adam knows what these go for on ebay untouched, and I thought I was bad :D If there are parts needed for them Z1 has most of them that's where I bought mine from, Jeff was even real generous with some float bowls that I needed for a set as well, great resource for parts and info.

Ha ha yeah Rob, im no stranger to E bay.
Anyways here is one of the books I got with the purchase. It is 200 pages of every trick part available in 1981 for all the big Honda Suzuki and Kawasaki performance models.
Here is the kit they sold for the accelerator pump including the bowls.

Here is the universal accelerator pump kit where the jets are threaded into the carb opening. This is the one the set of carbs I just got have.

Here is a Smoothbore info sheet. Nice to see they made an adapter plate for the GS 850

If you guys wanted any info or pictures of any period era performance part from this book, it is loaded, just ask and i will look and upload info. It has products from every company on the cover here. Lots of technical numbers too on various products.

Wow, what a cool bonus!

can you look up in there to see if it is new enough to list a big bore kit for the GS650? that bike just came out that year, so it may not, but I have always been wondering about the Wiseco kit they use to make, a part number would help me search the internet for a new old stock set, doubt any are kicking around but who knows.
