If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Bandit 1200 Yoshimura Special

The petcocks will leak and need to be rebuilt or replaced often

I was warned ... when i took off the tank today to work on the carbs,
the petcock kept trickling.

Do you guys know if this is like the GS ones - very low succesrate in
rebuilding, wiser to buy a new one ?

The carbs looked way better than i expected.

To my chagrin (at first), of 6 of the 16 float bowl screws the head was
damaged badly, not re-useable.
Screws are made of very mild copper/brass like material.

My mood improved when i realized that, had these been steel ones
like in my GS carbs, the thread in the carb bodies would probably
have suffered in stead of these easily replaced screws.

Yes, wiser to buy a new oem one. I've rebuilt it and had to pick and choose from the kit. The spring in the k&l kit is much weaker than the factory so I reuse the factory spring each time. The o ring that actually contacts the taper of the inlet, the one on the center of the diaphragm, is too hard in the k&l kit and I have to soak it in gas a day before the rebuild. So I should have just replaced the whole thing, but I'm hard headed sometimes.
Many people switch to pingel, but I do really like the automatic vacuum function.

I have only replaced one petcock on the B12 and with a new one. I had all bad luck with multiple rebuild kits for GS's, so I went to buying new for them also.

Ummmm, that isn't good.
I've come to conclude that sitting unused takes the worst toll on a motorcycle. Consequently, I always have Stabil in the gas tank and the longest the B12 ever goes without being run and warmed up is two or three days. The carbs never need cleaning. well, at least not in 17 years. LOL

So i have been soaking the jets in different cleaning products
for the past days that usually work well for me.
Also tried a day in Berrymans, and ultrasonic cleaning.
But these jets were really clogged with rockhard stuff and i
could not get them as clean as i want to.

Today i went to my buddy, he had Forte valve cleaner.
Expensive stuff, but after 15 minutes the crud poured from
the jets and now they are really clean.
I am really impressed.

Now waiting for some emulsion tube o-rings and a new petcock
to arrive. Hopefully next week i can try the bike.

i used to work for a large US company. Being Dutch, it took me a while to get used to
the abbreviations my USA based colleagues used.
ROFL, ROFLMAO, BOHICA, IMO, IMHO, AFAIK, IIRC, and numerous others...

Checked the float valves, they are looking much like the jets.
Cleaned one of them, these things are crazy expensive to replace !

Gas needles had thick hard dirt baked on.
Cleaned them up, simple job.

The needles are held in place with a plastic holder,
with an o-ring on it.
The o-rings were like chewing gum ....
