I love the consistent feedback from Sport Demons too. I only get 5000 kms out of a rear and around 7000 kms on each front. You must be riding good surfaced and straight roads to get 17000 - 22000 kms out of a set of SD's!!!!!;)

I must admit that since fitting a complete brand spanking new O.E.M. exhaust system that set me back $2,400 I don't push the bike as hard as I used to in the twisties for fear of trashing the pipes. It could be riding style as well because even when the sport exhaust system was fitted and the fun dial was in the red zone I could get 10,000 km out of a set of Demons.

 OUCH! I bet she looks nice though. ;)

Kenda Challengers are probably worse than some of the mediocre tires that our bikes could be outfitted with when they rolled out of the showroom. And I mean that sincerely.

I agree completely. I made the mistake of putting those crappy shoes on my 850. +1 on everything you said about them being dangerous. I was never so happy to buy new tires when those things wore out (which didn't take long). Currently I'm using Spitfire S11's and I like them much much better. Much more confidence inspiring and a lot longer life. I like them quite a bit.

Probably gonna try the Avon's though when it's time for a new pair of sporty shoes.

Hi Daniel, yeah I think putting the new pipes on have improved the look, now has that classy finish with the O.E.M. black pipes, cheers.

Classic Katana! A stock Kat is more rare than a modded one. Way to keep it original and resist the temptation. I have other bikes for that. Again nice bike, love the exhaust too!

Have any of you "sportier" riders tried the Shinko 230 Tour Master? :-k

I know several of us more-sedate riders are using them with no complaints, just wondering how they feel when pushed a little harder. :o

.

I mounted a set of the Shinko 230 tires on my GS850G last fall in the name of Science.

Very few miles so far and only one very short, cold trip to the twisties, but early signs are promising.

More data as it becomes available... :twistedevil:

Watching this thread with interest.Debating tires for my 78 1000C project.Wondering whether to do Shinko 712 or Road Riders.A freind is recomending Kenda Challengers, emailed him the comments and the rest of this thread.Guess I'll see what happens:?:

Does he like to fall down and go boom?
Kenda Challengers are great for that.

Whole thing reminds me when I had the SV650,came with POS Dunlop D220's.Was a revelation when I changed them out for Pirelli Diablo's.Some people would swear up and down how good the D220's where:eek::rolleyes:

I'll endorse the Road Riders. They feel good on my Bike in every way. Sux about the cracks. Just looked at my "new / replacement" I got from DK warranty last season...

12/11
Put the Bike to bed for the winter. Inspected the new Tire which I probably got 1500 miles on. Saw no signs of cracking. This is where I was a year ago and when spring came around it was cracked. Ill give it a look-see in a month or so and report. BTW....its 5f here. Still wondering if its a cold temp related issue :-k.

Still NO cracking......

I had Shinko 705's in the 1000 for a while and they did great both in the twists and on the freeway (I don't ride miss daisy but I am only 165lb..) so I'm sure the 230's will be good. I have ridden one bike with them on briefly and they felt good.

I like Roadriders although I'm toying with trying Avon Azaro ST radials on my wider rims for the next set...

Hi viperg, thank you for the kind words about the Kat, nice avatar you have there, cheers.

Well my avatar has my US spec Kat with Mags and Metzler's. I like the Metzs on the bike wish they were still available. They seem to where evenly and return good milage. And the black chrome exhaust is the right look for this old beast. Best of Riding, Viper

I think the Metzeler Lasertec are still available! I'm looking at the current DK catalog and they are still listed!! Unless you are talking about the old ME99 perfect rear tire, which they do not produce anymore!! Now that was a good tire!!!
Greg

By the way.......that is one "sweet looking" Katana!!

Yes you are right Greg I am recalling the ME99's Love them on all my GS's. I am thinking of trying the Michelin Pilot Activ's next on my spare set of Kat wheels. Yes this Katana is particularly "sweet" as you know. The P.O. was nearly METICULOUS!
